I have been considering buying a home in Barrington but now am not sure. In addition to all the concerns, there is also a noise factor which could be significant with so many trains a day (and night?).

its probably more like 30 trains a day @8 minutes each --- the only one who could stop it is Melisa Bean; but she gets most of her campaign funds not from her district (us) but from chicago (the major benificiary of this deal)

This all reminds me of the Army (or is it the Navy?): You got more done before 9:00 am than most people get done all day. Excellent!
And congrats on becoming new parents. Which brings you to the next challenge: Will you be able to persuade Bill to stay up with you for the baby's night time feedings?

Isn't it in the Chicago area's interest to move freight trains more efficiently, so they and motor vehicles spend less time idling? CN freights currently travel through 80 towns and 150 grade crossings. Buying the EJ&E would reroute those trains through 37 towns and just 100 grade crossings. Some of the closer suburbs have 100+ trains a day to deal with.

Personally I think people are purposely making fake bids. What little fame and attention you would receive from being stupid enough to pay a mere hundred - let alone two hundred thousand - dollars for a cornflake is not going to be worth it. I mean really, what does the bidder expect to happen? He/she'll get attention but considering all the more important things going on in the United States, it will blow off quickly and they'll be stuck with a corn flake that cost them a small fortune. Its just a corn flake for God's sake! The only other explanation I have is someone feels really charitable and hopes the girls will use the money for college. Maybe all it took was a unique cornflake to spark random, copious generosity.
