Lisa…This looks like a handy gadget but my Bionic doesn’t even recognize it. I’m sure that others would find it useful too! Can you do something with my phone so that it will recognize this cable?

#3. I don’t recommend the extended warranty on desktop computers because I estimate that 95% of my calls for repair are software issues – something most extended warranties don’t cover.

#4. I’ve been recommending LibreOffice. OpenOffice updates seem to have stalled, while LibreOffice continues to be updated. Also, LibreOffice easily opens Microsoft’s XML file format (.docx, .xlsx, etc.).

I have to agree that a tablet simply can not replace the functionality of my laptop. It’s great for portable entertainment or checking email, etc. but for productivity, I need a keyboard, I need a mouse, even a digitizing tablet. Editing photos, creating web sites, even creating word documents is simply too cumbersome or nearly impossible with a tablet. For the power users, the tablet could only be a complement device as Jay says. That’s my take on it.

I have a lot of users who use the iPad mostly for email communication and some presentations. When asked what I think, I usually say that the tablets are a tool, not a solution. To get all functionality needed for your office life, typically I have found that most can’t get around not having an RDP client on the tablet and even then it is cumbersome.

I have always found point 4 to be a hard one despite the big cost saving.
So far I have tried converting 3 businesses that did not use anything fancy in office just the basics but they always went back to office despite having to shell out for a few copies of the professional version.

I have found recently that I am being asked more and more about what computer to buy so I think people are catching on to some companies overcharging them.

I use the ipad as a complement rather than replacement to the office laptop. For work programs that can’t be run on the Ipad, I access them using logmein from my Ipad. Works best with a stylus pen, as manuvering on the Ipad with a finger controling a remote computer is pretty clumsy. There’s a delay, but it gets the job done in a pinch. If I have to do a lot of typing, agree the Ipad is not effective. Get it for the fun of it.

Looking forward to replies, as I am entertaining the idea of a tablet type of equipment….for reading books, surfing the net, etc and maybe some portable work things…..but would not be able to let go of my laptop, which is my personal favorite for work.
