So I figured out a workaround for 2 and 3–creating separate widgets for each category, and ordering them by name–but I’m still puzzled about the title thing. My sidebar is getting a bit busy…

1) There’s no option to add a title to the widget. How would I go about doing this? Right now I added an empty text widget above it and it looks like the title for the icons widget.

2) How would you modify this to get it to work with My Category Order? (If that’s even possible). I tried looking in the original widget to find the code to copy/paste to this one, but while I’m slowly learning PHP, this is still a bit beyond me.

3)What would the code look like to exclude child categories? (yes, this is a purely wordpress question, but I haven’t quite figured it out via google yet). Right now I’m doing it the long way: exclude=1,3,4,5,6,73,84,85,86,87,88,89,90,91,92,93,94,95 but I would really rather just exclude the category 90 and all its children.

I know you’ve got a busy life outside the ‘net, but any help (even if its just links pointing me in the right direction) would be appreciated. I’m using the regular version of CI, not the Lite one because why change it if it ain’t broke?

How to… not show one parent categorie ?
Say that I have :

Cat1
- Sub1
- Sub2
Cat2
- Sub1
- Sub2

How can I only show only Cat 2 (and Sub) ? If you put cat=2 it only show the Cat2 icons on every page, I tried cat=-1 but same thing. I want this to be automatic as usual, but not showing some categories…

I tried to replace “[]” by “[0]“. Apparently, it seems to solve my problem… Is this allowed, or this can cause errors in another situation?

THX for trying to help! Beta works but with bugs:
1) Categories with similar names (i.e. “news – movies” and “news – music”) don’t have icons.
2) Icons are shown where they are not supposed to be (i.e. under “latest blogs-excerpts”)

Second, is it possible to give access to editor (or other) instead of just admin. They can see the panel but not add icons.

I’ve found your instruction to get Category Icons worked with Article Directories since 2008. However, the instruction is too old. It was for Article Directory ver 0.6 while it is now v1.3.

Try to delete any folder that begins with “category-icons-lite” and then re-install the plugin directly from WordPress. You must set the correct permissions on the plugins folder to do that.

In french : essaie d’effacer les répertoires commençant par “category-icons-lite” et de ré-installer le plugin directement depuis WordPress. Il faut donner les droits d’écriture adéquats pour faire cela depuis WordPress.

This plugin seems to be exactly what I need…I usually hate heavy plugins and this one is nice and subtle, but I can’t seem to get one thing to work correctly.

I’m uploading images to the media gallery that are 200px x 150px. And I have the the wordpress thumbnail setting set to 141x 79x. When I use this plugin, its pulling the full size version (200 x 150). Is there any way to make it use the thumbnailed version that I have already set in Wp?

If I end up using this plugin I’ll be more than happy to donate for your PS3 cause

It uses a screenshot of a german version of WordPress, I didn’t have an english one available at the moment.

I really think people would love this seamless integration in the backend, it would bring WordPress even closer to a real CMS. What do you think?

One more suggestion: If I try to assign a new image to a category that already has an image assigned to it, it shows an error page saying that it is assigned already. Would it be possible to have a “replace” button on this page that would discard the old image and assign the new one to the category?

Yes, it’s normal : it’s the Lite version. If you want to display more than one icon, use the “regular” Category Icons plugin :

Or else, if you want to use the Genesis theme, did you use the template tag tab to view where you should paste the get_cat_icon() tag ?

I am displaying all the categories on the home page, each should contain the category title, description and image. I have to use get_categories() to receive the descriptions, and your plugin could give me images for each category.

I love the simplicity in the backend! Actually, the one thing I’m missing is support for the template-tag get_cat_icon( $category_id ) that was included with the Category Icons Plugin. Could you re-include just this with the Category Icons Lite version?
