Hi Chris, I stumbled upon your blog and have to say I think you are a kindred spirit (sword, gaming, role play, etc)! I was moved by your experiences outlined here in your “about” page and admire your observations and attitude toward life and how you have handled the curve balls life has pitched you.

Your interest in Sainct-Didier is timely for me. I am part of a recently hatched HEMA organization called Texas Armizare (we split from the ARMA) and I’ve decided to investigate St. Didier’s work as part of an exploration of the cut and thrust sword. This is after spending a good couple of years working on Giacomo di Grassi’s teachings. The change is welcome!

Keep up the good work! I look forward to reading more!

Hi Kenna,

First are you interested in modern (Olympic) fencing or historical (period) fencing. The two communities are generally pretty separate.

I’d suggest either looking through the British or American Fencing Association websites or googling “academies duello” and Raymond Martinez.

It’s a tough sport to get into without tuition somewhere.

Ah, everything old is new again … Jesus continues to be packaged in mulitiple ways – even including this one. This rang a bell for me, making me think of a review I wrote of a contemporary evangelist’s book:

“…Rather than challenge ideas of what is cool/good/admirable (as Jesus did), Dickson tries to re-present Jesus as cool by the standards of a 90s teenager. At times this is valid – the popular Ned Flanders image of Jesus is absurdly out of step with the often prickly in your face real deal. However I’ve got some reservations given how central this theme is….to play up Jesus as Arnie action hero is a bit spurious: Jesus was the guy who told Peter to put the knives down…”
