Brian - just about all D56 retailers face price drops when the pieces are retired. It used to be that prices would go up, because pieces were in shorter supply and would not be enough to meet demand. However, sales have dropped for collectibles - and just about everything else! - and the huge number of pieces made each year means that there is actually an oversupply of village pieces. That drops prices like a rock. Most smart shoppers buy their pieces on the secondary market (eBay, or through direct purchase from other collectors) because they can get them for much cheaper.

I have a friend that owns a home decor and gift shop. They have a lot of dept 56 items. Recently he was telling me that when they retire he has to lower his prices to compete with the market and that they used sky rocket... is this not the case where you are? Because it really frustrates him. Just curious.

Have a happy new year!

it's great that you put up the chart on how to read the scale of trains so everyone knows what that means. Folks in the market for a great train set want to make sure they get all their pieces at the same scale.

Christmas time is a wonderful time for family activities. Although many kids would at first look on a model train as old fashioned, once they start playing with them, their whole attitude changes. So for some good old fashioned family fun, consider getting your family a model train and reconnecting with young and old

I have several lighted holiday houses from Joann Fabrics and love them. I try to add a new house each year and my village is growing quite large. I also have a large shoe box filled with accessories such as trees, ice pond and people to add to my village scene. It's very magical.

I have to agree, it can be really frustrating when you have your heart set on a certain building or figurine and come to find out that it has been retired. Ebay on the other hand has been a fantastic resource to acquire these retired treasures.

I love the Precious Moments Christmas village. In addition to their figurines, ornaments and nativity scenes, their villages are a welcome addition to any home decor during the Christmas season.

A model steam train set is a very fun and exciting hobby and adding this to your Christmas Village will make it look more vintage from the old days.
