These might not be new to you, (especially since a bunch are Chronicle's!) but since your babe is fast approaching, here's a roundup of my favorite design-y board books: http://www.designmom.com/2013/05/11-of-the-best-d...

I'm crazy for dogs, so I love the Harry books (No Roses for Harry, Harry By the Sea). Also like the books about Angus the Scottish terrier, but those are from the 30's I think. I love the color palettes and the sense of movement in those books.

I love these! I've never seen THE QUIET NOISY BOOK. How perfect. I just blogged about DESIGN IS A DANDELION, from 1966. Had no idea about it until I stumbled into a used bookstore in Seatttle, and was just completely wowed.

I'm a big, big fan (and collector) of a lot of those books from the midcentury era. I started up the Retro Kid Flickr group because I wanted to find out more about the artists and other types of books from that era: http://www.flickr.com/groups/theretrokid/

Just do a search and you'll find so many good ones illustrated by the likes of Abner Graboff, Art Seiden, James Flora, Alice & Martin Provensen, Mary Blair, M. Sasek, William Dugan, JP Miller, etc....I could go on!
