It's funny - when I first started using it, I thought, "This will be great for planning the high school reunion! We can all get together and pick locations and catch up and so on."

Now, it's *replaced* the reunion. People aren't interested in picking coordinated dates and events - we can just catch up all the time on Facebook and have small meetups whenever it's convenient.

Very true. I wish it was a simple formula, but there are so many dynamics in the ecosystem that you have to be thoughtful... but not too thoughful. There are no canned answers.

Well put Billy-the hard part is sometimes figuring out how long to stick with those who are a good fit for the team, but aren't for the role; they're well-liked by the team, carry their weight, and may have the tools to advance-just not necessarily via the path they're on.

I've had a similar pet peeve with this for many years. I've called the ritual of opening a magazine and removing all the extraneous material, except for one slip of paper to use as a bookmark, "deboning" because it reminds me so much of the arduous but crucial activity after fishing. And as you point out, Billy, I never pay attention to the marketing material itself.

Great blog post Billy. Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been 'coach' of Manchester United for over 25 years has a track record of firing any 'star' who starts to think they are bigger than the team. Every time he fires them, whether it's David Beckham, Ruud VanNistelroy, Roy Keane, or countless others, the pundits always come out with the same refrain 'what a mistake; they'll never win anything ever again', but guess what, he brings in new players, grooms them, and they win again.
