Thanks. I had stopped to take some snapshots and realized it would be a good time to try out the video function…I liked the results. It just took a very, very long time to upload to YouTube on the WiFi here.

This is as good as those hour-long loops of rain and thunderstorms I used to play during the drought! There’s nothing like the sound of running water – although, if we heard it running like this up at the place outside Kerrville, it usually meant we weren’t going anywhere because the creek was flooded.

It’s like everything diet-wise we have heard for the last thirty or so years… It all sounded logical, but, was based on almost no science. From fats to eggs to coffee to butter/margarine, everything we were told has been questioned in the past few years.

For me the most unhealthy diet I ever followed was the one my cardiologist put me on in the mid nineties put out by the American Heart Association. Low fat, high carb, lean chicken breast… I have never gained weight so fast.

Humph. Well, who knows? But I will say that I noticed that bit about coffee drinkers having slightly less risk of skin cancer. When I finally got myself in to a dermatologist after twenty years of varnishing, and she only found one little spot to remove, she said it had to be genetics, given my nearly daily exposure to sunlight.

Who knows? Maybe my coffee habit has helped, too!

Hi Linda. I think we probably had similar reactions to the piece. I know I watched it a couple of time before I posted it…Then I went on an exploration of other audio and video recordings of Jay Maisel and got lost for a while.

I watched this = twice! – right after you posted it, but …. well, one thing and another. I need a day to get caught up with everything.

In any event, I really enjoyed it, for any number of reasons. I’m not certain why it is, but I think photographers have offered me more inspiration and good guidance as a writer than most writers do. I have no explanation, but I certainly appreciated this post!

Thanks for the song Linda. You just introduced me to a new bluesman. I ended up spending a bit of time on YouTube chasing down some of his music.

I cut my eyeteeth on BBS’s way back before the internet rolled around. By 1999 my kids had already managed to run up a multi-hundred dollar long distance bill by changing the modem dial-in number to Austin when they received a busy signal on the local Houston number. None of them ever volunteered who did the change, but at least SW Bell let us pay it off over a few months. But you are right about how much our lives have changed in the past decade. Now, most of my “entertainment” and “news” comes off the wires directly without waiting for someone to explain it to me. And watching unfolding news off the air is just frustrating as the talking heads tell you the same three facts over and over…and over……and over again.

Looking at the tracks of the three Moore tornadoes would sure have me a bit leery of rebuilding if I lived in the area. It’s really amazing the amount of damage that town has suffered in just a few short years. And, to think, some people up that way think we are crazy for living in the track of the hurricanes that come around every decade or two… or three.
