I totally agree with the views on fragmentation. I consider it as important as virus protection and as much a threat to the health of HDD as any other PC problem.

Thanks, Antony for the good news. Virtualization is one of those emerging technologies that had been predicted to have a great future. Take for example this note http://searchcio.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid19_gci1090548,00.html written two years ago. Indeed, the last VMWorld conference showed that virualization technologies and initiatives such as the well-known VMWare's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure made a big bang in how we all feel and sense the world of server computing. For this year it has been predicted that http://www.gartner.com/DisplayDocument?doc_cd=143997 that the virtualization will both affect software and hardware share of the market leading to a change in what me know as the standard server market today. And the Microsoft's SCVMM and recent VMWare virtualization solutions are only contributing to that point. To that point, I'd like to refer back to that old article and put an excerpt from there: "For virtualization to truly work in real-world applications, users must also focus strongly on automation, the policy-based administrative tools used to deploy virtualized instances and manage them". It's deemed that such a large-scale change to the market means that the management software vendors should change their view of management as the companies, and hence the administrators like myself, are no longer limited by management problems intrinsic to physical computing alone. So far only one company I personally know of myself -if we drop the MSFT- has completely understood that and implemented the support of both virtualization approaches in its desktop managment product. I am talking about Scriptlogic and its flagship Desktop Authority http://www.scriptlogic.com/products/desktopauthority desktop management tool.
