Ken most contractors will charge for this. But I always look at the lifetime value of a client. Will you do more work in the future for this client. Is it in a area you work all the time in? Would this be something you could do to build more trust and have a chance to talk with your client again? I hope this will help with your judgement call. Thanks Glen

Glen, do you think it is appropriate to charge for services... For instance a down spout falls five years later in a storm.. Should there be a service charge for that or should I just send my crew out and pay them for the service...Thoughts?

Thank you, it's a little disheartening to know that we are a tactical company. Looking forward to get some tips from you in terms of how to build a good strategy.

Thank you for these. We have been setting our sights to becoming a commercial contractor, but you really have to have a lot of connections to be successful in this. I would suggest going for builders first when starting out, so that you would gain the experience and the network.

I do have a question though, what if you still don't have too many work or clients to refer you? If you're still starting out?

Referrals are a significant source of income for our business. They are often the best customers as well. Building a reputation and a referral base is one of the best things you can do as a contractor.
