Let me just say that I FUCKING LOVE THIS! Parodypastas are among my favorite, and I agree that most ritual pastas are just plain stupid. I think it’s just a very clunky sentence. It says ’33 years apart’, because at that point, Susan only knows two exact dates on which people dissapeared, namely June 21st 1980 and June 21st 2013. For the other two dissapearances she only knows the years. So for the two years 1980 and 2013, which are 33 years apart, she knows for sure people vanished on the same exact date, whereas for the other two she doesn’t know (yet).

I don’t care if you pity me and I don’t care if I lack kindness, I am simply me, and preachy comments like yours certainly don’t make me reconsider my views, in fact they only reinforce them, you’re not gonna change a dman thing by talking down to me.

nah, it’s more of the lovecraftian investigator. he is there to discover what’s happening, to bear witness, and maybe even survive, which he did. he understands that this… thing wanted to be known about, because humans have a morbid curiosity in them. and they can’t resist the telling of stories, either.

I think that was a good way to go about it, -mans the perfect word.

I think what struck me the most was remembering my own childhood and going to carnivals and haunted hayrides and the like. Your descriptions of circuses and carnival workers brought forth the memories of those times vividly, including the sensations of sugary candy on the tongue, smells of livestock and treats, and sounds of rides whirring and children laughing.

It also brought to mind all the oddities that are put on display at such carnivals. Usually only 1 or 2 oddities are real, the others being cheap imitations like a plush dog head fixed on either side of an otherwise-normal dog. But I have also seen some “authentic” sideshows, and the feeling of awe and fear inspired by them was nearly tangible when reading through.

I must admit, I didn’t catch the twist(s) in the story and thought it was going to border on the supernatural, but the ending and the very last twist at the end made the story that much better. I gave you a 10/10!

True but a lot of parents are in denial like this. Turning a blind eye to anything their kids do. Desperately trying to see their actions as something else, something less sinister or problematic. I think the fathers naivety was exaggerated on purpose but probably not by much. Parents with disturbed kids often sweep their actions under the reg because if they face the truth he might have to make the choice to condemn their own child to whatever fate. Have you ever read or seen an interview given to the parents after their child has committed a mass murderer or some heinous crime? They always talk about how much of a good boy he was or how quiet and kind and smart he was. How they never saw it coming. It’s always made me think how could they not have known? Was never saying the story was bad. I was point out that there were too many spelling errors for me to ignore and that the story was rushed halfway through.

Actually a backstory to the Grandmother’s accounts was created and submitted, but never published. You were incredibly close though in your predictions.

Yeah, there were spelling errors, and I would have LOVED if it was expanded, developed a bit more, but that just proves that OP did a good job with it so far, if even with errors, I wanted more.

So yeah, play around with it some more, heed other *helpful* advice that is given, and I would be very interested to see the polished product.

Why do you think nobody would speak to her, since she is perfectly capable of reading lips? And even though it never specifically states that these characters are also signing to her while talking, it doesn’t mean they weren’t. The author just didn’t want to give too much away. Interpreters use both signs AND moving their mouths when interpreting to the hearing impaired.

She reads lips therefore it makes since that he would speak to her, and it doesn’t say how he spoke to her, he may have used sign launguage (which in my book is still a form of speaking to someone) or he may have used his mouth and she read his lips, at that point in the story it wasn’t important to go into those details.

Hey again! I’m the one who wrote this a while back and you gave me some critique. (I tried and failed to find your email) I wanted to say thank you. I understand it was a simple thing to do, but it truly did encourage me in a wonderful way. Shortly after this submission and reading your comment, I realized how much better I could do. Soon, I got a wild idea for a story, and now it’s a full novel! It is nearing its completion and I have had some friends review and comment on portions until it is fully finished and their feedback has been very encouraging. One of them said if a company denies publication then they’re idiots. I’m not saying it will be a best seller or that I’ll even be lucky enough to get it published. But nonetheless, it’s a huge accomplishment for me, and honestly, no matter how simple it was just to leave me some critique, I honestly believe that’s what pushed me into doing better. I’ll take your suggestion about the titles into consideration – it’s lazyness, just as you suspect. As for the learning more about the sickness, I worry that a more in-depth explanation would both ruin the mystery as well as really break up the pace too much. The issue is that the format (short story creepypasta) doesn’t really allow that much leeway in terms of exposition.

I disagree. I really don’t think the plot sucks, that seems harsh… And yes this story could use a little polishing but to say that it is a waste of time is just plain rude, and I hope the author doesn’t get discouraged by your lack of courtesy.

To the author, I think you did a good job. Your description of the setting is very pretty, but at times I did feel like the description of the setting and the character’s opinion of it got a little repetitive. If you went back with a critical eye and shaved away a bit of anything repetitive or unnecessary in the beginning bits, your story would be even better. I also enjoyed the monster you created! She was scary, even if the way it ended was a little trite. Keep writing!

I wouldn’t recommend reading it for it is a waste of time 5/10 for the good set up.

Kind like how conquering armies used to let a few victims live to spread the word to the rest of their people about the doom that was coming for them. Fear can do a lot of your work for you, if your reputation precedes you!

The main character is “the one who knows best” and “tries to help” yet still is lacking when it comes to action; she’s merely reacting and trying to save herself. The other characters somewhat fade into the background; name or not, they’re dull. They have minimal personalities; explained, not shown.

You get a sense of isolation from the main character, but it’s more of an indifferent sense of isolation, not a jarring one. The latter would be portrayed more openly if the main character somehow realised that the creature was only targeting her, for example, and would not show itself for the others. Imagine a creature plucking people one by one. Furthermore detailing the reactions of the flatmates would add to the dread; how they could mess with her fear, downright ignore it, or seek to condescendingly soothe her.

The adding of small pieces of vital information as an afterthought is a no-go. It ruins the pacing. Think of the murky crawlspace and the closed little door it has: As BernidetteAnne pointed out, why would they put towels in there in first place? Not to mention calling it empty later on when she took the image. This could’ve easily been avoided by explaining that they started using it as storage until the towels started smelling; hence removing the items and shutting the space tightly. Plan it.

Overall, the story could’ve been made vastly more captivating had the main character been forced to stay for the duration of the trip. Seeing that she was low on funds, it wouldn’t be farfetched to assume that her parents would disagree to let her come back – plane tickets are not free – or her feeling ashamed of wasting hard earned money.

That way, the protagonist would be in a situation where she couldn’t escape. That would force her to attain allies and gain trust.

Let’s say Stephanie – her roommate – did hear the sounds, but choose not to acknowledge them since she refuses to believe in such things. She also felt a danger in the bathroom, thus always ensuring that she was there with someone else. But, she does not believe in the supernatural. How would the main character “convert” her?

The friend she spoke with about the image, how could she help her along? Keeping watch from a safe distance through her camera? Looking up information? Give these characters roles.

Imagine the characters having to fend off this creature together, and realising that as they learn, the creature learns too. That’s scary.

The creature never even has to show itself, or be described with detail. The reactions and thoughts of the characters can suffice. (It is always a gamble to give the creature a shape.)

Yet, this is only my opinion and you are more of an author than I am. Putting this story up is applaudable on its own.

What I found utterly unnerving, though, was the footage. Good job.

I enjoyed the story as a whole, but the ending was a bit of a let down. 8.5/10 spoops.

BUT, i forgot to add this in the first place. It was well written overall and definitely portrayed a rational, logical thinking person with a good head on her shoulders which is rair for these kinds of stories.

I do wish the main character could have truly escaped, but that’s just my personal preference. I’m a sucker for a happy ending. (Lol)

Ideas… make everything ok. Then BAM! Add a stroy wirh detail about the fear you had as she was all of a sudden there again, following the main character. Why? How? What? Who?

The boy would grow up not needing therapy, but then suffer a paranormal mishap and begin investigating the paranormal. He would have reached my house under the guise of a pizza delivery boy to scan the area for anything strange. There he would find the computer and question me about the happenings. I would lie, but he would no I was because I would giggle. He would find the computer, exercise the spirit, and lay it to rest. Later, I would trip on the internet cord, hitting my head and killing me instantly.

And no, I also don’t like the ending much. It’s very decorated for me – too much words. The less last words, the better.

I wrote the story in a couple hours after a musing I had. What if this ancient creature that fed off of human energy were disguised as something very personal…like say, a pillow? Then, what if the person it had been feeding on suddenly found out the truth of its nature after years of only having the slightest sense of it when its feeding apexes at 3:33am, but then couldn’t remember afterwards? Lisa had a chance at freedom from the beast but didn’t get it far enough away and it amped up its attack when it could no longer feed; so much so that it was able to use the image of its last victim (Gammy) to manipulate her in to bringing it back to its feeding ground (her bed) where it was back to business as usual. I guess I was too vague. oh well.

also there’s a couple of parts in quotation marks early on that were supposed to be in italics instead but I was having a little trouble w/the HTML adjustments from the cut and paste.

Although I don’t think the the concept of an anchor is their original content. Might have some mythological origin. Have to look it up. What I like to do to proof read my stories is feed it through a Voice Over Software like Siri, to see if it reads correctly. If something is weird I go over it to see if maybe it doesn’t feel correctly. I can’t tell you how many times this has saved me a Tense change.

Yeah it realy was lacking in the creep factor like it had an intresting idea but it didn’t realy pull it right

[spoiler title=” “] The main character is captured by the entity and put in a padded cell with an insane asylum. The ending states how the doctor wishes to tell the main character that he is correct, that there is indeed an entity trying to trick him. But he cannot do so because of the nerve filaments wrapped around his head and eyes. The nerve filaments either reference to the brain or the skin. This conclusion means that even Amy is trying to tell the mc that he is right, but she cant. Because the entity is controlling her. It makes you wonder, what if in real life, we are also controlled too. It could be you are the only one with free will and everyone else is controlled.
