yeah! the puzzle piece I was missing!
now I can do:
<a href="">

to display the categories list from an option I set on the themes options, which of course, in order to be user friendly had to be with names.
Thanks!

Michael,
Like on category pages? This will work in the loop, not sure about outside of it.

<code><?php $id = $cat; echo $id; ?></code

Thank you! All I needed was a category ID and WP doesn't list it anywhere in the admin panel for some reason...but I got it with the get_cat_id function.

Hey Curtis, I've built websites for many years for one thing or another but I’ve found it so much easier to just find a good WP/Theme and put my thoughts or Grandkids Pictures on it or just what ever... it is too easy to do it that way.

I remember when it took many days to get a web site just the way you wanted it, picture in a certain place and make it stay there!

I think you get what I'm trying to say LOL! Wish I had more time put it in more understanding words but I have to get in the bed for doctors appointment early in the morning.

I maybe one of those that will still put a pets picture on one and don't worry about ads and such.

Oh well thanks for all you do Curtis, I check your blog everyday to see if you posted anything...

Thanks again, Richard
