I was a part of Mrs. Denny’s third/fourth grade class at Chapman elementary school, and Mrs. Carver’s music class, when we petitioned the city to make Portlandia our city song. It was Mrs. Denny and her classes of 88/89 that made this our city song. We got to meet Bud Clark and the city commissioner at the time, Earl Blumenhauer. We sang the song at city hall, and watched Bud Clark sign the song into the city’s law. We recorded the song in an actual recording studio as well, and I still have the tape of the original recording. We sang Portlandia in Pioneer Square for the grand opening of Pioneer Place Mall in 1989. It was a lucky time to be a kid in Mrs. Denny’s/Mrs. Carver’s classes.

I waitressed at QP in ’71, got fired when my long lost husband returned from Mexico (long story) and I called in deleriously happy. Lived on the top floor of a three story house 24th and Lovejoy. There was a Greek grocery on the corner of 23rd and Lovejoy.. I loved this neighborhood!

There had been a contest to name the machine that Mr. Duffy cranked to play the cartoons. I came up with the name, The Crankadoodle, and won the contest. The prize was twelve boxes of Welches candy, Welches being one of the program’s sponsors. I still remember the outfit I wore and eat candy for months.

I was delivering newspapers just outside of Molalla between Mt. Angel and Molalla and just pulled up to one of my customers when my car started shaking good. I thought it was my cars transmission acting up until i noticed everything outside was shaking. That was creepy and my first quake. If it hadn’t been fir Spring Break, i would have normally been at the Molalla High School when it went off and likely crushed by all the brick that came down right where my papers were dropped. Dodged a bullet there!

My father worked for Bell Telephone Co. Portland and he was involved with getting phone service working
for KOIN . It was around midnight on the day of the first Mr. Moon show later in the day and my dad woke me up very tired and blurry eyed ( age about 3) to watch the test broadcast of Mr. Moon Show. I thought it was really cool and Mr. Moon looked very glittery on screen. I remember him making a Wooh sound with his voice as to sound outer -spacey !. I watched for about half an hour > I remember and could not stay awake any longer and went back to bed.

Do you have any information or pictures of the replacing of the Burlington Northern Bridge over the Wilmette River ? If you might I have a lot of Video and photos of that. I also have a copy of the Blue prints of the New Bridge. I also have video of inside the old and new bridge controll house. I spent a year taking photos of it. I also have the Rose Festavill fleat passing through the old swing span.
