Dave, I’m sad to hear this. There are a ton of things that you’ll learn over the next few weeks, I imagine. I certainly did. I’ll give you some of the same advice I got the first night after my diagnosis, which I received from a seven-year Stage III lung-cancer survivor (almost exactly the same as mine):

- Read this: The Median Isn’t the Message Take it to heart.

- Prepare yourself for a balls-out street-fight, mentally and physically. Clear the decks as much as you possibly can, and focus on winning the fight.

- Assemble your support team, and very importantly, ACCEPT THEIR HELP. I can’t imagine even wanting to survive the last four months without the love, support and help from friends and family.

- Un-limber your spirituality, if you work that way. I do, my family does, so it was relatively easy for me. God is a rock.

- Do your best to maintain a sense of humor. It’s OK, if it goes dark. Or so I see it. But I *have* to laugh at some of this shit, it’s just too absurd not to.

- Finally, get on top of your Social Security Disability qualification. You can do this online at ssa.gov. Remember, this is your money, not someone else’s, and you might as well go get it now that you need it. At a minimum, you start the clock ticking for your qualification, and you might even qualify immediately, as I did.

If there’s anything I can help with, don’t hesitate to drop me a line. I’m happy to share what I’ve learned over the last few months. It’s some hard-won inside info.

Recent news that Bose has entered into the truck seat market is very interesting. The newly designed seat is said to greatly reduce road vibration and shocks which leads to improved health for heavy duty truck drivers. Although Bose is new to the sector, using their superior knowledge in the area of vibration is a great leap forward in truck seat technology, and should be greeted as such. We can only hope that the price tag per seat suggested to be in the area of $10,000, will eventually become financially viable for the average, independant truck driver. At present Bose is targeting fleet owners, but in the current financial climate, even they will be hard pressed to replace truck seats for their entire fleet at that price.

HAHAHA! I hate that freeway in that town. Do you take the trench so you don’t have to re-merge from the elevated ‘express’ part? It’s always a crapshoot which level is going to be worse. It’s probably the dumbest design in highway history. Definitely the dumbest design I have to drive with any frequency.
