I think FUMC is on the mark with "getting the message right". I enjoyed the video because I had not heard it put this way. Heaven now. Heaven to the human heart. Those words are powerful.
It's amazing how FUMC is always bringing Heaven to a hurting world. Africa, Mexico, any hurting area of the world. But the words bringing "Heaven to a human heart" made it very personal and close. Thank you for putting this out there.

I thoroughly enjoyed the video and plan on sharing it on my blog here pretty soon. Here is a couple of thoughts that I had in response to your question.

What is essential for the Church to get right?

I think it is as Dallas Willard suggests, we as the church start to stray from the right path when our central message is that we follow Jesus so that we can get to Heaven when we die. That is not Jesus' central message at all. Rob Bell once wrote that "the way of Jesus is the best way to live."

The invitation by Jesus to be his disciple is not an fire insurance plan. It's life transformation. Once you accept this invitation your life that you live will be transformed into a life that is fueled by Grace and Love.

It is essential for the Church to get right that life in Christ is not about just getting into Heaven, its about bringing Heaven to Earth. As disciples of Jesus Christ we become co-creators with God himself, by helping God create a better world by the love and grace that Jesus did and still does to this day.

C.S. Lewis once wrote that we, as human beings as far too easily pleased by what the world offers to us when God offers his infinite love for all.

I suggest that Church take part in inviting others to experience this love as well.

Thanks for posting this interview, it got me thinking and challenged me.

I've read a little of the book titled Sacred Marriage. The first chapter is titled: The Greatest Challenge in the World - A Call to Holiness more than Happiness. Am not aware of David's plan to utilize the book in the casae or use it as reference in developing the class. I think the book is about fostering a common understanding about what Marriage should / shouldn't be. I like the idea of added perspective of what marriage is/ isn't.

I truly believe that the future of our culture is at risk due to the failures of families. I married my wife because of love her dearly and couldn't imagine life without her. When I envision my future the vision I see is experiencing things with her. However, the most important aspect of my marriage is to teach my children how to live, love, and remain in a committed relationship. Strong marriages are a microcosm of strong communities. If we fail in our closest relationships, we will most certainly fail in life and eventually, if repeated enough times, the community will fail. Having said that, I see the only true way to build those lasting relationships is on the ROCK that Christ promised. This may be one of the most important ministries taken on by churches today. Thanks, David, for doing this.

Love this idea! We need to take the time to make our marriages strong, just like we take the time for our kiddos and our health! Count us in :)
