Hi DAvid, I found your blog while researching starting new congregations on the Internet. I'm the pastor of a small Anglican church in western Canada and we're currently planning to start a new service. I'm having a bit of difficulty with emailing you through this website; could you email me at tim dot chesterton at gmail dot com so I can pick your brains a bit? Thanks.

What comes to mind: A mysterious, wonderful, wise, discerning, powerful and connecting gift from God. It is those things because it is truly part of God. A conduit for unity. Guidance. Consistency.

Experiencing to Holy Spirit, to me, has been in times of contemplation, decision making and worship.
During contemplation it's an overwhelming sense of comfort and understanding of the world around doesn't really need to make sense.
With decision making, again with me, it's what people often describe as a "gut feeling" but one with a certainty that seldom comes during decision making processes. Once I have that feeling about something, I almost never change the decision. Does it always work? Well, not the way I thought it would.
During worship it's hard to explain. It's a release. A release of worries, of decisions, of troubles and of my agendas. It is a comforting presence that yes, at times gives me goose bumps. It's also a feeling of relaxation and understanding that yeah, God is Big Enough to handle all in this world...because he made it.

Describing the Holy Spirit to a new Christian: That is very difficult for me because I'm explaining a feeling. It is a part of God that he left with each of us when Jesus ascended into heaven to provide us with an ever-present part of Himself that guides us and provides direct access to God.

Questions about the Holy Spirit: How to better understand it and have it guide me in my daily walk.

An adequate understanding: No, no I don't.

Can't wait for this series.

When I think of the Holy Spirit I think of "the presence of God with me.

The Holy Spirit is with me all the time. It is just a peace, joy, knowledge, "feeling" that I am in the will of God. That my mind, body, and soul are His. That I am loving Him as He calls me to do. There is no confusion and no questions. I hate that many times (lots) I ignore the Holy Spirit and life gets messy. But, I know that in those times the Holy Spirit is still there.

I have difficulty explaining to a friend. I never have an adequate understanding of anything. I am learning to be content with the mysteries. Also, it's why I love my pastors. They help me step by step in my understanding.

When I think of the Holy Spirit, I'm immediately overcome with warmth. I think our conscience is the Holy Spirit at work. We can choose to ignore it or pay attention to it. I know that if I always pay attention to it, it never steers me wrong! Yes, I have experienced the Holy Spirit, just recently actually and I am SO grateful that I paid attention to it. I heard the Holy Spirit gently whisper for me to do something for someone, for Lent, instead of giving something "up" for Lent. I have been doing something for a co-worker everyday during this Lenten season and I have never before, felt like such a vessel of God. It has changed my life and hers and it is being paid forward throughout our campus. I would describe the Holy Spirit as a loyal, trusted friend who's love is genuine and never-ending. I feel pretty confident in my relationship w/ the Holy Spirit and that's why I am really looking forward to this next series. You always want to find out more about something that means so much to you.
