RAM is so much faster than a hard disk.A current SATA disk has peak transfer rates of 375 MB/s, current RAM can do 12,500 MB/s.

you make a good point.

Javier, why would I restrict swapping?
Well because the reason for swapping to disk
is to free up ram. Reading and writing to disk
is significantly slow than writing it to ram,
so if I have ram available, I want to use it
instead of the disk.

I agree with using unused ram,
that is exactly my point.

I have installed Chrome OS on one of my netbooks and the performance of Chrome OS is just okay. there is nothing fancy or very special about it. It was just a sort of GUI version of linux or something.

Thanks for your article. I was facing problems to connect using my Hotmail account… I’ve followed your advices and it works like a charm.
I agree with you, it’s an easy way upgrade Pidgin (my favorite IM application).
