Your photo is hilarious! Guess what...the rating agencies are the ones that determine AAA rating quality--so what if they change their mind--who is the checker?

Anyhow, for those who like to write about the real estate tabockle, I just whipped up this data aggregation website that allows you to create some cool content for your real estate related website. Check it out, and build some of your own customized real estate data & information. Let me know what you think.

Lew,
I think the economic problems the city was facing finally came home when the Bank of CC failed. This recognition seemed to take some time for the city council as a whole. For awhile I felt like I was living on another planet. The mayor is one of seven council members. If 4 out of 7 members had thought the city was in trouble, it would not have mattered who the mayor was. The situation was that 2 of us were very, very concerned about the economy. We may have been pessimistic or skeptical, but we were not a majority and this is a democracy after all.

A big part of the mayor's job is to be optimistic and Royce Pollard naturally is. He may have been overly optimistic then, but he is out there now trying his best to make things better for the city in the future. He could have just slunk off, but he is cut of better cloth than that.

Not to interfere with the admiration expressed by some for Mayor Pollard, but does the proposed budget deficit for the city under his leadership sound like a capable leader?

Does it really matter if he or any state officials support or oppose the Iraqi theater in the War on Terror when they should be more concerned with Vancouver and Washington State? Personal opinions are one thing, but that is a Federal Issue. Our state and city facing such massive deficits is where our local officials need to be concentrating efforts, isn't it?

The admin does not know how one goes about "promoting candidates who have democratic values" without causing disagreements as to who those candidates are. Does President Obama have democratic values when he escalates the war in Afghanistan, argues against single payer health care and for Bush style government secrecy? Surely he has some democratic values when he argues for tax increases on the wealthy, reforms the credit card industry (or at least tries) and promotes environmental issues. Who decides who and what is acceptable and who and what is not?

Because of this difficulty, it is the task of the readers to determine and express this "OKness" just as you have done here. And your thoughts and opinions are welcome and appreciated.

Pollard was indeed the choice...for 1989. If we want to move forward, we should look at a candidate who isn't interested in legacy-building and threatening those who don't support him. The Ds supporting Pollard are just as representative of the old guard as he is. It was a mistake for me to use 'republican' in that previous comment, you were right. I should have said that, if this is a site that promotes 'democracy,' then perhaps it should actually promote candidates who have democratic values. State and Fed electeds supporting Pollard is meaningless. They want the perception of a good relationship with him because they want to be able to say that they have the support of their represented areas. It means nothing. Does Pollard have a functional relationship with the county, other cities in SW WA, or the employees of the city he 'governs'? Not so much. D vs. R is indeed beside the point. These days, both parties are over. A truly progressive vision will not come from those who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

Senator,

That is a great campaign slogan, “Royce is Still the Choice!” Or it could be “Royce is the Right Choice!” Marsha, are you listening?

Thanks for being the great progressive that you are Senator Pridemore. You definitely have my vote (except that I am in the 17th) and support.

I'm just about to leave for Royce's fundraiser. As a Democrat, a liberal, and one of TWO elected officials in Clark County who came out opposed to invading Iraq from the beginning (Jim Moeller was the other), I'll stand by Royce. We don't agree on a lot of national and international issues but when it comes to building a great city/community, Royce is still the choice. :-)

Interesting that the "bullying Republican" has the treasurer of the Clark County Democrats as his campaign manager. Guess these labels do not mean much these days.

Posting the fundraising event is just a public service. The position is non-partisan. If Tim Leavitt or others running for city council makes the admin aware of a fundraiser, that will be posted also.

You are welcome to register on the site and post an article expressing what you think about our mayor.

I'm hard-pressed to understand how Rolls Royce Pollard represents democracy for Vancouver. This bullying Republican is hardly a representative for democracy or any kind of a progressive future. If we want to get out of a 'good ol' boys' club' mentality, I'm not sure how keeping their president as our mayor will do us any good.

Missy: I know that this does not address the entire point of the post, but is seems to me that your current employer is keeping you there by offering you more than anyone else in the open market will.

You have a complex medical situation, and I'm sorry for that. But the first part of your post is a little like me complaining that my current job's salary is holding me prisoner. I could never make my mortgage payments on what competitors would offer me. My quality of life would nosedive if I quit.

As would yours. But I don't think it would be impossible for you to get coverage if you left, but it would leave you with less - maybe much less - to spend on other things. Bad news, but ... that's how employers keep us.

Best of luck ... for what it's worth, I bet you will get your public option.

I personally knew someone that also had breast cancer (like Robin in this video) and had an individual policy (and ironically was a nurse like Robin). Her policy covered the treatment and then they immediately canceled her policy. She was forced to obtain coverage from the state under a program for people that could not obtain coverage elsewhere.

What good is insurance if they will only cover you until you have a major illness? The purpose of insurance is to spread the risk and cost among everyone. This is another massive government failure to properly regulate an industry.

This group appears to be getting its marching orders from the single payor, Capitol Hill crowd. I do not think any kind of protest is effective anymore. At least the Capitol Hill single payer protesters received some media coverage.

I am confident whatever comes down the pike regarding health care, if anything, will be a very incremental change leaving the vast majority of Americans and/or American companies still overburdened with costs and under burdened with care. After all, the foxes are guarding the hen house here.

Protesting Dean's support of the public option is kinda weak sauce at this point in time. The political reality is this: large portions of the Democratic caucus will not even support the public option, let alone singe-payer.

Do people really believe that shouting at Dean with a megaphone is going to magically make Max Baucus put single-payer in to the Senate bill? How is this effective advocacy again?

Even most European systems are NOT single-payer, it's just one option out there, not necessarily the ultimate solution. France, for instance, is NOT single-payer, but consistently ranks highest amongst overall satisfaction and health outcomes.

Joe,

Thanks for your update on the event. I signed up for tickets but could tell it was going to be a zoo and that only the chosen elite would actually be in attendance.

Who is Willie Smith?

IN MY OPINION,

Town Hall my Ass!

I attended the fiasco called a Town Hall Meeting with Congressman** blumenauer and Dr. Howard Dean on Friday afternoon. The was the worst run “Town Hall” I have ever attended. At best it was a major screw up on the part of willie smith and the earlman and at worst was a planned shutout of any of the activists who support and are willing to fight for Single Payer. I was ashamed that I had spent 40 years in the democratic party, and was glad I finally left it in disappointment. This meeting was modeled after the bush/cheney idea of a Town Hall; control the tickets, load the place with party officials, and exclude any real people who might ask the hard questions. Willie Smith, you are a LIAR!

Lie: “Anything that gives a false impression.”

We were invited to the Town Hall by e-mail, we were told that Blumenauer’s staff were overwhelmed by the response and had to have a lottery to pick for the tickets, we were told that they would let us know who won the lottery. Two days before the event we were told, “We” lost!

I say we, because the activists who are the leaders in Portland for Single Payer were excluded, any members of Individuals for Justice were excluded, and members of any protest group that are known were excluded. It is not possible to have a random lottery and come out with those results, the fix was in and heads should roll. But we can’t even get the earlman to call for the arrest of mass murderers, why would he apologize for screwing his base one more time. But there is good news.

From the reports coming out of the “Invited guest meeting” things heated up inside when Dr. Howard Dean recognized the noise outside the doors and acknowledged that the democratic party must move towards Single Payer. I was not inside so I am dependant on others for what was said. I know there will be video soon of the rigged event, so we shall see. The protest became sad when a wonderful, peaceful man named Harry was arrested by the campus police.

I call Harry a friend of mine, because he makes me proud when I stand and say enough! He has refused to surrender to police power on any level when his rights are challenged. Talking to him after his release it was obvious to me that once again a cop was asked by what law do you order me under and that caused Harry’s arrest. I hope he writes about his arrest, as this part of the event is his story. I am just proud to be around people who will stand and say---I am an American and you are not going to violate my rights without one hell of a fight, Thanks Harry!

We shall see how all this plays out, more and more people are coming to realize that our politicians are not representing our interests, but their own. They belong to a club that will never invite you or I to the table, they must be replaced, every goddamn one of them: blumenauer, wyden, wu, etc. etc. (give Merkley a few years of grace or not)

There will be more written about this event, this again is how I saw it. I did enjoy chasing willie smith around with my makeshift megaphone yelling, the best I could, Liar, willie you are a liar---you lie!

Some think that people who had tickets are also supporters of Single Payer, I disagree---if they supported our battle then they would be standing with us and not validating the rigged town hall manipulated by willie smith and the earlman! ENOUGH!
