I had to place the entries not only in the the physical hosts and vCenter but also in the client workstation I was trying to upload the from. This was because the client did NOT have DNS setup yet in there environment.

Where do you add the DNS entries On the VCenter Server or the box which you are accessing the Vcenter SErver from?

I restarted the VC service but no luck on that as the fix.

Thats good to know that there are other causes of this error. Mine was DNS related, I have noticed over the last couple of months that VMware heavily relies on DNS and if you are not allowed to use host files and another group manages DNS you can have a lot of interesting hiccups.

Hello Doug, I have moved my database application to a Virtual Machine. I have seen no performance degradation. I think the big issue at Bank of America is there is not an overall strategy for Virtual Servers. For example how many database Servers can you run on a virtual server or what is the performance of a database on a standard server and a virtual server. I want to make this a Green Belt project to come up with a deployment/sizing strategy for virtual database applications.
