Hi Aimee- Lyle's golden syrup is a British product that is fairly widely available- Hannaford just might have it. Maybe give them a call? We have it at our Big Y, which is a similar supermarket. Brown Rice Syrup is a similarly sticky but less sweet syrup- absolutely at Whole Foods. I think that honey will make a fitting substitute for golden syrup in car snack 2, if you have that on hand. Really what you want is something super sticky that will bind the oats together.

What is Lyle's Golden Syrup? Also, what is brown rice syrup (from Car Snack #1)? Does Hannaford stock these baking supplies, or should I look for them at Whole Foods or somewhere else? If I don't have these on hand, is there anything I might have (or make - like a "simple syrup") that would work the same?

I could almost feel the breeze coming off that lake. So glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day. I'm really looking forward to getting your book. I'm heading out to B&N at lunchtime.

Hi Sharee!
That's a hard one- and it sounds like you're already doing a pretty great job.
I would say that making sure that your freezer is organized is really helpful- keep a list of what's in there and where and when it went in, so you can refer to the list instead of digging through the freezer. And maybe having work days every so often, where you just really get into it and bake all day (maybe with family help?)
And also, (and I know I say this a lot), don't be afraid to make exceptions! This whole process is meant to make you feel good. So in the moments that it feels heavy or too hard, give yourself a break. And as you're kids get older, they'll be able to help. At 9, Sadie is actually taking some of the food load off of me- so that's the future!
