A good book that helps us think differently about dementia is called Forget Memory by Dr. Ann Bastian. She's invented TimeSlips. A process of storytelling to engage seniors with Alzheimer's.

Rae, you look fabulous and I can only hope to age as gracefully as you have - even Mother Teresa would notice and be impressed. Your life is an inspiration to all of us "life learners." I celebrate you, your graciousness, your love of knowledge - your life! Have a wonderful 99th year!
Regards,

Flora,

Thank your for your comments and for the reference to your new publication, I look forward to learning more about your perspective. In some ways holding firm to the choices in my life I find making the best choices for my personal health is still a challenge. I learned a long time ago that simply having the necessary knowledge was often not enough when it came to taking a stand and making the best choice for our own self care. A lot can be said about demonstrating courage to commit to positive choices for our own self care first so we have the necessary personal strength to be our best for the rest of the world. Thank you again for your comments.

Dear Mary,

I am delighted to see your post on "Choices" and, most definitely, some are easier than others. My background also includes health care and I have found that awareness of choice is essential to good health. To me, without individual choice on our own health matters, we are detaching ourselves from one of the major links to good health in the first place -- free choice.

A book I have recently written highlights this viewpoint and I want to draw it to your attention , as you may be interested in it. The title is "Soul Talk With Cells: What We Really Want Is To Play" and information is available at http://www.strategicbookpublishing.com/soultalkwithcells.html If you have any questions, I am most willing to offer my views on this topic.

Thank you Mary for your wisdom filled post. I'm sorry to hear that the grieving process is causing such pain. I congratulate you on your wise approach to it and wish for you reclaimed joy as you continue your journey. Thank you for the Wounded Healer link to the youtube video, wow, that was powerful. So good for us wounded healers to remember those concepts. It was beautiful. The music is so healing too. I love Loreena's music.
Peace,
Becky Henry

I have just read the incredible tribute that my friend Mary made by honoring me in this article. WHat Mary didn't tell you was of her unconditional love and supprt that held me on one of the most difficult of my days journeying through breast cancer. She modeled for me unselfishness, generosity of spirit and quite simply, love. Holding her near in my heart, thinking of her as she walks the path of grief is a privilege. I only wish I could make the task easier. I know that she has been a light for her family in this journey and that her service to the memory of her sister honors the gift she was to the world. May we all have the courage to feel every emotion that is part of the fabric of life and to know that it is in our connection and love of one another that all joy resides. Then, in the dark nights, we will have one another to lean on, journey with and return, once again, to joy. Mary's presence in the world is a light in the darkness and I am so very blessed to call her my friend. Thank you, Mary, for your words of love about me and my new beginning. I shall cherish them forever. Sherry
