Looking forward to it along with you for all the same reasons. Equality is equality is equality. If I have it, everybody should have it. All the freedoms I celebrate as a straight white woman should be enjoyed by every person in this country. I remember studying somethings called liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness. I laughed (sardonically) at the time because I didn't see any for a lot of us. Race, religion, sexual identity, age, income are all still reasons for oppressing Americans and that is NOT right.

I'd like to write an essay about my mom's experience as a in the Detroit Feminist Women's Health Collective and as a midwife in the 70s, and then as an ob/gyn nurse at a hospital. It would be a personal essay, adding in my own experience. I can see this fitting into a few of your suggested categories, like "historical perspectives" and "activism" and "reproductive choice and health". Would you consider it?

Lovely, Kit-Bacon. Thank you. I see that you haven't been eating bon-bons for 25 years since we worked on the city of Pasadena and had wine with Tony and Gordon. Hasn't it flown?

I'll use a word I reserve for only the best writing I get to read. Writing that is elegant in the word, soulful in the tone. EXQUISITE!

WOW! Before opening your post, I'd just finished reading an email from a friend who lives in Fallbrook. Her email contained an announcement about the upcoming Mariachi event at Fallbrook library. Great timing! Oh, and thirdly, I was invited to participate in Fallbrook's A LEER festival a couple of weeks ago. I envy Fallbrook's celebrations of their vibrant Latino community!

K-B, your words are beautiful, sensitive, moving.

The human spirit is uplifted by your words almost as much as it was hurt by this homegrown act of terrorism. Like the Alamo, we need to remember. This was one of our own who did this, not a fundamentalist from a foreign land. We need to fear all the terrorism we hold in our hearts, all the fundamentalism we tend to cherish as WORD, as an order from on high. We need to look at our motives and our plans, and allow others the freedoms we want for ourselves.

How do we protect ourselves from the hatred we hold in our hearts?

Hello, this sounds great. Will you consider submissions from outside the US? And (question two!) would you consider a short story in the genre of specular fiction?
