I have had very similar experiences with GoDaddy sites.

Have you read Parson's blog?
At the very start he tells how GoDaddy came into existence and claims that GoDaddy will ALWAYS put it's customers value 1st.

I pointed out his comments and GoDaddy's actions contradict each other.
Naturally he didn't allow that to be posted.

I imagine you already know this, but just incase, president@godaddy.com will reach some more senior personel within GoDaddy. Get's you past the typical phone support.
But I haven't seen that that makes any difference yet. Just a higher rank of BS.

Hi. Found your blog from your posts at mikeindustries. I have a question for you and hope this is an OK place to ask:

I'm interested in a name that was registered through Registerfly. They have a backorder service called DropFly. By backordering the name through them, is it one of those exclusive situations where I'm pretty much guaranteed the name?

Also, I backordered the name a couple of days after it went into redemption period. In order to qualify for the exclusive status, does it have to be backordered before it goes into redemption?

Third, since RegisterFly is an Enom reseller, how does that effect all of this? Should I do the backorder at Enom too or am I fine just doing it at RegisterFly?

The name I'm interested in is a .net for personal use. I used to assume speculators weren't interested in .NETs, but after reading the above I'm starting to rethink that.

Thanks.

People are not willing to let thier names go at a reasonable valuation. Everyone wants that next BIG sale when in fact those are rare and far between. I personally contact people about buying domain names all the time and the people in the market are always asking insane prices. Everyone wants to sell on brandability. IMO, brandability is what you make of it. I am not paying you good money for a name when there are a million other names out there for 8 dollars just like yours with no traffic.

Ebay, shopzilla, tucows.....there are tons......don't get lost in the hype!

I am amazed to hear this. This basically means that godaddy backorders are useless for trying to get high value domains. For instance, if I backorder a 3-letter .com domain, according to the above, if it is put on auction and fetches > $10 (it certainly would), my backorder is useless.

The $18.95 backorders are very misleading.

That is the point of this topic, to gain the perspective of readers and hopefully understand the pros and cons of selling at this time.

I think many people with large domain inventories are trying to bail out right now, given the few high sale prices we have seen in the past 12 months. There would have been many more sales, except some people still try to cling to their pipe-dream of late 90s and asking way above what the market would buy.

PPC is a model that is quickly losing its legs as more and more fraud is uncovered and advertisers become ever more paranoid of this. Curious type-ins, the model that fuels PPC traffic, don't convert well into sales, so the worry that people will soon uncover and discover "truckloads of rotten traffic" is there as advertisers start looking more and more into conversion ratios.

As bricks-and-mortar exploit the web more, they will fuel massive web traffic through spiral techniques that will make the type-in model look like Alice In Wonderland, totally clueless.

You can fool some of the people, some of the time. The strategy seems to be to fool as many people, as quick as possible. The clock is ticking.

You definitely have a right to be upset. GoDaddy wasn't very vocal about its changes in February. They saw the chance to grab some cash, but at what cost? Upsetting a power user like you? You see this a lot in all industries -- David works hard to beat Goliath (i.e. NetSol), then takes advantage of the position and becomes the new Goliath.

I think people are over paying for OVT+ext domains right now, and your case here shows that there are some great traffic domains that aren't in OVT. I've been dissapointed with some OVT domains I've purchased recently, and very happy with domains that only had backlinks and no type-ins according to OVT.

By the way, I don't think your trackback function is working properly.
