Hi Kellie

Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to critique my story and for your insightful comments.

You mentioned that the story's connection to the title was not strong enough. I think that using a myth as the inspiration for a story presents a writer with the additional problem of needing to acknowledge the source, while creating something new.

The story uses the following elements from the body of myths surrounding the Kelpie.

A Kelpie is a mythical horse which can shape-shift and often appears as a handome young man. Its mane constantly drips with water and its skin becomes adhesive when touched so when humans climb on the Kepie's back they are unable to escape. The Kelpie carries its victims to water in order to drown them and eat them! In one legend, a boy touches the Kepie's muzzle and ecapes by cutting off his own fingers.

Many thanks for including my work in critique-a-flash. It has been a very useful experience which has given me some interesting points to work on in my writing.

best wishes, Jan Harris.

Lovely snapshot. I disagree with the feedback given suggesting that the author alter this to a plot-driven genre. Changes in that respect would wreck the substance and tone.

Thank you for posting my short memoir piece "Flowers and Cats and All of That" and for your comments re a more complete story arc.
I wish my name appeared correctly and the piece did not exhibit an omitted word. (glutton) which renders one sentence in error.

Katrina Johnston has a T in it. So does Ellen Johnston.
