Comment on How Do We Rate This Flyers Season? by Mike Sheahan

How anyone can say this season is anything other than a huge disappointment is a mystery.

While the team had to overcome the loss of Pronger, and had several key players out with concussions, and with terrible goal tending issues the fact that they made the playoffs and whipped the Penquins is great, but.....

To watch the other teams still alive in the playoffs, shows just how weak and under achieving this group is.

Both GM and Coach have to bear the brunt of criticism for this total 2nd round collapse.

Watching the team just dump and chase the puck against the Devils, and the almost casual attitude, even when consistently losing puck battles, well, that is a motivation problem. Motivation problems are coaching problems.....
The fact that most of the teams "stars" did not show up in the final series.
That is a personnel problem.

Personnel problems, choice of players filling the roster, that is the GM's job.

Is all of this a bit of an over reaction?

Well, everyone involved is making more money per season than the average fan will likely see perhaps, in their lifetime. In other words, with a big reward comes a big responsibility, and our GM, coach and team, are falling far short of their stated goal.........

Was our current starting goal tender really the best option? Why did he have to be signed for such a long period of time? Who exactly coaches the Goalies?
Shouldn't that person be replaced?

This team sells out it's venue almost all of the time.

There appears to be more than enough money to put together the right kind of team to get a cup.

All we appear to lack are the correct decision makers.......

What exactly were u thinking theses last two games? You keep mixing lines up that don't work and b/c of that the Devils are all over the Flyers like white on rice. Start checking the Devils into the boards and your poke checking and back check need big time improvement...and stay the hell out of the Devils' zone for minutes at a time and letting them get set up. Even when it's five on five, the Devils look like their on a power play..come on guys..you CAN take this series...just stay on your man and don't let up...all of Philly knows you can do it!

Clearly; Pittsburgh has demonstrated their team is woefully inadequate against the Flyers; so much so that Pittsburgh has to resort to injuring as many Flyers as possible trying to level the playing field.
The Flyers organization is fully justified to take legal action against Pittsburgh ownership and the NHL for official allowance of unsportsmanlike play with intent to injure.
When a player leaves both feet to deliver a hit around the head as happened yesterday with no penalty levied; a full investigation is justified and legal action warranted against the perpetrator and management responsible for such heinous action.
It doesn't matter what sport it happens in. It cannot be allowed to continue and severe penalty is justified including termination of contracts from top to bottom in any organization.
Superior athletes deserve the best protection possible to prevent injury. Officials who forget injury should not be allowed must also be removed from their respective positions; top to bottom.
I have been an official in little league sports for many years and every time I take the field injury prevention is foremost in my mind. Today some officials are forgetting that is their primary purpose before all others.

There is a real stench coming from the Wells Fargo Center.
I'm not sure if the problem is the players, coach, or the GM.
I think the fans are just tired, tired of hearing the same old crap about "tonight is just unacceptable" "we got off to a slow start" ect,ect.....
This just looks like a lazy, coddled team. Of course all points in this league are hard to come by, but this team, on some nights, just looks indifferent.
Not being ready to play in the first period is, in my mind, a coaching issue, and very much a bad reflection on the staff. While this did not happen in Edmonton, it has happened far too often, so far, this year.
This terrible goaltending is also a problem, although that did not appear to be the reason for this latest loss, as the Flyers really created very few quality scoring chances while I watched. It must be very frustrating to the team, when they are in a tight game, and the goalie(either one) seems to give up an easy goal, when they get pressed.
Lately, when the team gets down by more than a goal, I just shut them off, as I have very little confidence in them coming back. That miracle they pulled off in Winnipeg, happens far too infrequently.
If this keeps up, the management better get ready for a sea of empty seats at WFC.
This team is dropping like a rock in the standings.

This team asolutely does not have any decernable system in place... This team has taken more penalties than any other team in the league and that shows just how undiciplined they really are. And even though they've had more experience killing off penalties, they rank 16th in PK, the lower half of the league.
They've come out flat and unprepared to play, giving up more goals in the first few seconds or minutes and blown more 2 goal leads than I can even count... They play with no sense of urgency most of the time and others just stop skating or skate so slow it's embarassassing.
They pass so much their PP stinks and raks in the lower 1/2 of the league. I want to know when the coach is going to take the blame for all of these issues that have been exactly the same for over 2 years and has used 10 different players.
Laviolette either doesn't know how to fix this or doesn't think there's any issues to be fixed. In either case, as a teaching coach he flat out stinks to high heaven and needs to go.

This team asolutely does not have any decernable system in place… This team has taken more penalties than any other team in the league and that shows just how undiciplined they really are. And even though they’ve had more experience killing off penalties, they rank 16th in PK, the lower half of the league.
They’ve come out flat and unprepared to play, giving up more goals in the first few seconds or minutes and blown more 2 goal leads than I can even count… They play with no sense of urgency most of the time and others just stop skating or skate so slow it’s embarassassing.
They pass so much their PP stinks and raks in the lower 1/2 of the league. I want to know when the coach is going to take the blame for all of these issues that have been exactly the same for over 2 years and has used 10 different players.
