I always like the way you guys think! Just one bone to pick here. Ocean view, quality built home in the Dominical to Ojochal area with a swimming pool for under $250,000? I dunno......that has got to be a tough bill to fill! Not that I am in the market to sell mi casa anytime soon, but I do look at the houses that I see listed, and I would peg the quality homes that seem to match the pictures you show above in the $400,000+ range. What am I missing?

Saludos, Jay

and ps- keep up the great work!

Ben I just drove The New Road on monday....what a treat!! People in Alejuella have told me that folks in the central valley are thrilled about the road. Getting to the South Coast is a dream now and more inland citizens will travel to the coast for vacations and to buy properties as will others from afar come to buy. In my humble opinion, folks who have land or homes in the Zone are fortunate but perhaps those who wait a year before buying, may not be so fortunate. During my present visit to the S. coast I have not observed as many tourists as I have previously at this time of year. Arguably there isn't the discrectionary spending money around right now but US housing starts are reportedly up and forcasted for more growth plus there is a lot of interst in CR from China. The Canadian economy is wheezing back to life and I hear some posative news coming from other quarters of the globe. I hope you and Rod have a GREAT year.

Great information and very well written! Clean water is a very important (if not THE most important) aspect in finding the perfect piece of property, IMO. If a good water source is not available (even if that source is the sky) the cost of developing, or just living on, the land goes through the roof! Water is the ultimate luxury.

As a former potential buyer in CR, the law is having a chilling effect. We just withdrew our offer on a $1M plus home and this was the primary reason. Not so much the current cost but (1) taxes always increase and (2) it signals a change in the government's approach to foreign investors

Any senior citizen from North America can retire in Costa Rica for a fraction of the price of what they'd pay in the US or Canada.
The high prices of the cars is the only downfall.
