I'm very much into this as well, got caught in the carusell of diverse GTD tools, settled into some, and it's true, I _don't_ have to use any in order to get things done. I've tried many ways of grouping projects, finding the right contexts... I' m with you when it comes to the order of doing things, I've changed it into jumping into projects, doing a loose list of next actions to get me started, I _do_ something, and first then I start the detailed planing, where I want to continue doing things.
