Hi,
Thank you, very good info. I love your info, I love your attitude, I think I would really like you if we met in person and I have followed you for a few years now. But, I agree with j3jewelry, please edit, your 1:08 hours could have easily been done in a half hour.
I will also put in a help ticket. Even though I've watched your orientation video, I can never get back to the weekely lessons.
Thanks for all you do, please keep it up
Cheers

Lots of information here. Would be nice for the convo to be a bit more structured for the time allotted, since we jewelry makers' time is limited (as you mentioned). And another tip about waiting for something render on youtube... set it to render, then go work on some jewelry. The next thing you know, hours have passed, and the video is done! :) Nice intro, ladies.

Wow!!! I love your anodised aluminum jewellery. The first thing I thought of is that your market should definitely be gallery shops, museum shops, and people interested in design like furniture designers who loooooove modern design. Your market is not the average person, and you should price accordingly, and get a professional website done that showcases your work properly. If I were you, I'd reprice the rings at around the $200-$300 mark, the bracelets at the $300-$400 mark and sell wholesale for half the retail price, approach galleries, and figure out how to get your rings and bracelets onto celebrities, dump the other lines, and become THE anodised jewellery designer that everyone is itching to wear. You'll need some branding and some backing from someone major though...

Or... spend some money on website redesign, get some ad grahics made and advertise in design magazines, get your stuff featured on design blogs (find the popular ones and offer them a guest post or ask to be featured or both.

I definitely need assistance for market research. I use to sell my handmade lampwork beads, I had my target market - jewellery makers. I would research websites, send many personal emails out in a night, and within a week I would have on average 3 new customers, worked a treat. Now that I am trying to sell jewellery, albeit anodised aluminium jewellery which makes it a little more unique than the norm, I just cannot fathom who my target market is and how to get their attention. It's so frustrating I'm ready to scream!

IMHO, getting a "following" is key. Getting known is the answer. I know u cant judt load up stuff on the internet and wait. I have done market research and I have my own website in addition to Artfire. I can't afford to pay for the services that Artfire gives us for 5.95/mo on my own for my own website. Twitter is useless (how do u get followers if no one knows you?) and FB is useless now that u can get blocked by everyone that says they are your friend. Some friends, huh?
My stuff doesn't sell b/c it has no following. I make what is wanted and the (in my opinion) leser quality stuff gets purchased for some odd reason- probably b/c they are paying to have their website brought to the top if the feed chain. Or they have a following from craft shows (my cousin has done this- as soon as she got involved in shows- BAM- internet sales like crazy.
I feel that I will be successful one:
1) I lower myself and start slogging around to shows (junk sales, basically)
2) enter into juried shows and get intomlocal co-ops.
3) spread my biz cards far and wide (once my husband completes them- as he promised 3 months ago
4) wear my stuff everywhere
5) get blessed by the artisan jewelry fairies

After 2 yrs I am tired of being passed over. If I wasn't disabled I would give up. I need something to keep me busy though.

Another great article! I am also a proponent of the make-it-once and sell over and over and have just self-published an eBook on my most sucessful art-wire designs and techniques.

My journey is living proof that the advice given in this article is so spot on! I found my niche (a story in itself) by supplying to galleries that promote hand crafted artisan work and recently upgraded this website which will shortly have its shopping basket re-instated - but my eBook and its website http://www.hotwiredbeads.com has had priority over the last six months.

Although I work mainly in wire, more recently I have been conducting workshops on the art of bead weaving and felted jewelry, which I just love as they indulge my love of exploring other media, and is so good for business (bead weaving is so addictive!) I now retail supplies from my studio as wel. You have even given me several new ideas...had not considered writing for jewelry sites or affiliate sales!

So, to all you girls out there, follow your dream (and Christine's articles!) and take a few chances. It can be done.
