1.In the mid-60s Bacolod had its heyday, with the sugar boom and with the staging of the Public Schools Interscholastic Athletics Association meet at the new and vibrant Paglaum Sports Complex. The realization of the complex was through the effort of then Gov. Alfredo Montelibano, the great sportsman himself and to host the PSIAA Meet then, now called the Palarong Pambansa. Montelibano bankrolled even came to the extent of having superstar student athletes recruited from the other regions to champion the WV Paglaum stable. But it all died a natural death.
25 years later in 1991 it was Iloilo’s turn to host the Palarong Pambansa at the newly refurbished Iloilo Normal School grounds, now the West Visayas State University and the Iloilo Sports Complex was born, the first in Western Visayas to have the rubberized track oval. The Palaro was very successful with Western Visayas dislodging NCR for the championship. The complex could only boast of its outdoor swimming pool and the modest slim but spanning grandstand filled with distracting columns that hinders spectators’ view of the ongoing sports activities in the outfield.
It was the deterioriation start of the Paglaum Sports Complex, the once toast-of- the-region complex that became forgettable but still looking grandiose with the biggest capacity grandstand in Western Visayas, as Bacolodnon would like to equalize their idol Iloilo. From Paglaum they would march to Panaad stadium.
Bacolod could have just refurbished Paglaum with rubberized oval, but they wanted so much Panaad as their sports showcase, and so it was done in agoho-filled Mansilingan claiming the precious lands in the tiny Bacolod.
2. When news conflagrated that the Iloilo airport was to be sold and to build a modern facility at the outskirt of the city, Bacolodnon wouldnt be left out, the follow Iloilo’s initiative building their Bacolod-Silay Aiport, again to use the massive lands in the tiny Bacolod.
3. When news circulated that Iloilo was planning to build their new City Hall, Bacolod wouldn’t again be left out of their idol city. They built their new City Hall ahead of time in a land as big as their capitol grounds, still eating the most precious lands in the tiny Bacolod.
4. Bacolod would reclaim lands from the sea with a billion peso BREDCO but consuming a lot of lots from within the tiny Bacolod so long as it could idolize Iloilo.
5. When iloilo was to connect the city to Guimaras with a modern bridge, Bacolod would also have a bridge linking them to Guimaras at all cost. But alas becoming a Wishful Thinking Bridge.
6. Bacolodnon worried a lot when after 20 years they still didn’t have the SM Mall, when Iloilo had already 5.
7. All these leads to somebody commenting on this site that they are ‘The Most Confused City’ in the Visayas, such minor but supplemental issue with their traffic enforcers vending chicharon as their govt. couldn’t afford them salaries on time.
8. Their city gov’t. would like to eradicate the proliferation of gambling activities in the city, but who knows when.
9. Power and water supplies are the chronic problems of their city, but they would rather see what’s new and ongoing in Iloilo. Bacolod would idolize iloilo to some extent but not keen with the power-water supplies.
10. Bacolod continue to falter inspite of the blessings being the sugar capital of the country, their being the heredera of the once richest Original Queen City of the South Iloilo. Now, they could have idolized Cebu, instead, to move on and not to wallow in decades-old rivalry with their mother city.

ILOILO IS THE IDOL CITY OF BACOLOD<br
