If they are in search of enlightenment and desperate to avoid the way of the cross, why don't they just come to church with the rest of us? No need to look beyond our own pews to see people that are disaffected by the crucifixion and just going through the motions. It is not just non-believers that are at odds with the Word. Sorry, a little disheartened today by the lack of real vigor in the church. My limited knowledge and lack of experience is seen as full of God's grace. I'm not worthy of the praise and yet because it seems like I am willing to listen to the Word, I must be something great. I'm nothing, and I hope everyone gets it through their head that without God, they too, are nothing.

Yes, I find this extremely worrying. I hadn't realised until I read this article that the investigation does not include contemplative nuns. I think the telling paragraph is this one:

Cardinal Levada sent a letter to the Leadership Conference saying an investigation was warranted because it appeared that the organization had done little since it was warned eight years ago that it had failed to “promote” the church’s teachings on three issues: the male-only priesthood, homosexuality and the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church as the means to salvation.

In other words, American nuns are political and clearly this cannot be allowed. Hence the witchh... I mean investigation.

Hi. We seem to have a number of similar interests, as well as some not. This comment is really on your about page. Your site was a suggested site on my blog Fr. Orthohippo at One recent (and quite popular for my small blog) was Earliest Christian Practices. Your background sounds quite interesting,

Steven,

I didn't know that you went through Dave's school. I'd love to be able to do that.

I'm enjoying her book a lot; very practical guidance, and it's giving me a lot of good ideas and making me stop and think about how poorly I normally listen.
