I totally agree with you John. Email may be integrated better in various products but won’t be replaced any time soon, maybe upgraded.

Google Wave looks very cool but Wave is not really a replacement for email. It does somethings very well but clearly the focus is on collaboration.

If email were invented today, it would look more like TrulyMail. Here is a company which re-invented email. Sure they have few users but that will change with time.

We all know the problems with email: You don’t know if/when your messages are delivered, too much spam, your messages are not really private, etc. TrulyMail solves these problems.

The only problem (or is it a blessing?) is that it is a complete replacement for email (it actually has nothing to do with email and uses its own servers). Their latest release includes integration with email to make the transition a bit easier for those of us who live in the real world.

So, yes, Wave is great but I wouldn’t consider it a replacement for email. It will make our lives easier but it won’t replace the number one use of the Net.

Daniel, my point of view is that you can’t kill progress, it’s natural for us (as society) to become computerized but we have to be careful not to be de-Humanized.

I completely support computers (your surgery example is one good example) but we have to figure out the nasty part and control it.

I have a Question? I am a student at Peebles High School, and i am doing an Essay on “Is this dependence on computers a good thing or should we be more suspicious of the benifits?”
I mean we got doctors accross the world performing sergerys over here in the United States by computer.
There starting to put Micro-chips into our arms and forehead, to control temper problems, to make you feel Emotional or mad, it even tells your mind what to thing and what to do.
They even got computers that make you go to sleep now.
Is the world going computerized or Humanized? What is your statement?

I use windows media player Ver 10 and I ‘m very happy with it.There are some files which windows media player cant play and for them I use superdecoder player.

This post of yours just catched my attention as I was going to dual boot my computer with Win XP and Ubuntu. I just want to give Ubuntu a try and thats all…otherwise I’m very happy with my XP SP3 which I have given some Vista look.

I think you understood me wrong teja: I have a carrier contract that gives me 25 MB of traffic, not Opera. Opera Mini helps me to not consume more traffic than my monthly quota.

For me one of the most important things aside from spec when buying a new laptop is the keyboard. I made the mistake once and while it was a good laptop I hated using it due to a bad keyboard.

Neither of those work for me, unfortunately. I’ve been trying to fix this for 2 days now. The plugin didn’t fix any of it. I changed my theme to default, didn’t help either. Disabled all plugins one by one .. No result. Pretty hopeless over here.

Edit: Found a blank like in my wp-config.php –> Problem solved. Thanks for the info.

Hi, I also read your article, but I particularly agree to Harry. I need a search-tool for work, I have about 30,000 mails in my Exchange account and also a lot of archived mails.
I use Lookeen for doing Outlook-Searches, this tool is really good, very fast and needs not much system resources. Perfect for me. And there are no functions which look nice but get boring after using them a few times.

About Xobni, I couldn’t agree with you more. I would have preferred the advanced search options in the free version and the garbage in the premium version.

Xobni doesn’t look much as a business tool but more as a social media one, and that’s not what people look for in a search tool for Outlook. Those funny statistics are nice, but once you forget about them you never use them again.

thank you for this great article. I like that you also described that xobni has a plus-version which costs money.
I gave xobni a try but I´d some trouble with the performance (ok my computer is nearly 4 years old), but the things I was wondering about were the search functions.

Xobni wants to be a email searchtool, but I guess it makes everything but the search itself is not very powerful. I don´t need any contacts in facebook ect., I have my addressbook and I want just search in my emails! I want to search my attachments, contacts, mailcontents (..) not more and not less.

I hope the developers of Xobni will understand this one day and release an outlook searchtool, no messenger (and, please, a small toolbar which does not need the half space of my screen).
