All the pictures I've seen show a dog stepping through a dog door in a door that is level with the ground. That's great if you have a home on a slab, but many homes aren't built that way, especially where I live. Many have steps to climb in order to enter the home or garage. At my home, the garage back door sits one step off the ground (the kitchen is separated from the garage by two steps and a fire resistant door) Unlike a dog door set in a door that is level with the ground, a dog's chest and back are not parallel to the ground when entering and exiting a door on a step or stairs. The dog's body is at an angle -- the steepness of that angle depends on the number of stairs and the length of the dog. Using the level surface installation template for entry/exit of a dog door on a step, the dog could injure his back and/or chest when going in and out. How does one measure the placement of a dog door for a door on a step or two? How many inches taller must the opening be for the dog door installed on a door on a step or two? Please let me know. I have a Malamute that is 28 inches tall at the shoulder and 12 inches wide. I am interested in ordering your product but would hate to injure my pet. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Well done on getting your blankets used in such a way. I have a friend who trains therapy and assistance dogs, and they are just wonderful animals.
