"This will be just like (most popular casual title of the day), but we are going to make it deeper! With long, deep quests! And extensive Crafting! And arenas for combat! And leader boards!” to which I will ask, “And how do these things appeal to your female audience?”"

So, let me get this clear. The women section of the casual gamer market (which is 70% while the overall market share when including hardcore gamers is down to 45%) don't want games which have "long deep quests", "crafting", "combat" and "leader boards"?

So, what you're saying is that its wrong for gaming companies to make games for their hardcore gamers. They should instead keep them "dumbed down" to ensure they appeal to their casual gamer market?

Even though that market equates to less than 50% of their main target market?

I'm sorry but this, like the "pink makes me feel blue" blog entry, smacks of chip-on-shoulder rather than problem-with-industry.

My ipod touch 1G is my important iPod, Pda and far more, as well as has long been from the moment I purchased it. It still operate the most recently released iPod system software program, and also any application I will want it to run. I'm using it to leave this comment at this time. I would say it truly is a lot more compared to solely an "excellent hobbyist system" -- it's an outstanding iPod

AMEN!!

Good gods, I hate the patronising tone we women technologists get. I've hated pink since I was a little girl raised by a woman who thought pink was overrated and let me have my opinions regardless of gender. So I hate pink. It's not an aesthetically pleasing colour, and I don't want to see it on my very favourite things. Give me purple or green (one could, for example, expose the circuit boards inside - those are green!), and I'm in. But really, it's all part of a bigger problem in technology. The first question people ask after I tell them I study computer engineering is "I'm sure you like having all those boys in your class", as if I study computer engineering to get a husband! Fine, so we're about 5% girls, but that doesn't mean we don't count in the long run. We don't do pink gadgets.

Also. Faux snakeskin? PINK?! What the hell do these people think we are? Deluded fashionistas so long gone in fashion-world that we can't differentiate between tasteful and tasteless anymore? :|

Interesting but the tilt and slide is one of the best features of the N97 IMHO. Also the screen is far more responsive than an iPhone if you have acrylic nails. I find on the IPhone you HAVE to use your finger whereas the nails are just perfect for the N97. And we are finally getting lots more apps for the N97 yet you say there are few for the N900 which makes it a loser to me. I would love the bigger keyboard though. Of course the only remaining question for me is does it come in a range of colours? Or do I have to use skins to co-ordinate?

so that's the answer is it? If it's meant for women clad it in vile pink faux snakeskin, yeah, that'll get the ladies flocking in. Clearly a campaign thought up by men. Argh! It is so frustrating.

i found you today via a post you wrote on Mums Rock and i couldn't agree with your sentiments more, us women are interested in a whole let more than nappies, diaper bags and condescending 'specially made pink stuff. Grr, it all makes me so mad.
