I believe that all people are lazy and as Americans it will be a long time before we reach a recycling rate similar to more progressive nations like Germany at 85% recycling rate. The real thing America needs is to install "dirty MERFs". Check out this website, it really explains this well..

Unlike Jesse we don't think all people are lazy, far from it. A large and growing percentage of Logan County residents, especially those involved in recycling, cannot be considered lazy. These are people who care about the environment and work to keep it clean, and recycle to save energy, resources, and expense. A MRF is a 'material recovery facility', a place where recycled materials are sorted, bailed and sent to mills for reprocessing into new products. A dirty MRF is one where all garbage and trash is picked up from the curbside unsorted. It is sorted on a conveyer line by workers who pick through the garbage and trash to pull out the valuable recycle materials. Dirty MRF's are expensive and don't rely on people to do anything except keep throwing things away without thought about where they are going. It is for this reason that we oppose a dirty MRF. We are a Zero Waste County and opening a dirty MRF will assure that zero waste will never be achieved. We would rather take the longer route of education, economic incentive, and providing convenience to raise our recycling rate to that of other countries where it is indeed very high. A. Hale, Coordinator

Hello! My name is Julie Newton and I 100% believe in recycling!!! Around where I live you have families with about 9 bags of trash every week. We are a small county and we do offer some recycling but deep in my heart it just isn't enough. I want to know everything you all recycle. Where do you all take it. I know I could get something going if I had all the info. I want to start somewhere. At the moment we did get a grant a couple of years ago on tires. It seems to be doing well if only everyone would participate. I want to encourage residents, I want to hold recycle days on different item every month. We have great folks that live here that wouldget into it but we need more resources. We would love to hear about you. Thanks for your time. Julie Newton

What is Logan county currently doing with mattresses it receives?

We would like to work with you to reduce your waste being sent to landfills.
