Lucy, I've met a lot of people who have struggled with cravings and they always come to the conclusion they are addicted to sugar.

Believe me you're not, it's just a habit, like biting your nails or cracking you knuckles.

Who cares about weight? Some of the finest athletes in the world are classed as obese on the BMI because they weight a lot.

What really matters is how much fat you have on your body. In fact, if you are walking your dog quite a lot, and eating a lot as well, you are probably gaining muscle not fat, which is making yourself weigh more on the scales.

If you want to chat more add me on my msn.

The scale is nothing to be scared of because it tells absolutely nothing about how well your fitness programme is going.

If you look up the correct definition of contagious you will find obesity is in fact not CONTAGIOUS.

I understand how it could be considered ''contagious'', in a totally non-scientific way, but it is just not.

You could easily say from this being slim is contagious. You could say smoking, drinking, running, burping is all contagious.

But you shouldn't because it is totally misleading and quite simply wrong.

To the first reply, don't be such a**, who do you think you are?

Whether your Buddhist, Catholic, Muslim or whatever Lent/Fasting is great.

But remember giving up something isn't a challenge or a test, it's just suffering. That is the whole point, or this is just the way I have always seen it. Isn't the whole idea to suffer and share empathy with the world?

Unfortunately children, whatever faith may be, are often not taught why they fast or give up something they just follow blindly and gain absolutely nothing during the period.

Everyone has their own spiritual practices, and I don't think people should criticize each others' spiritual practices. I am not criticizing your choice to volunteer at a soup kitchen. I think it's great that you are doing that.

Seems as if you've really taken a "spiritual" track with your commitment to bodily purification on the path to God. Why not volunteer at a soup kitchen and actually DO SOMETHING FOR LENT?! What a good Catholic you are, eating all of those sweets so you don't feel as if you're missing out on something. Give me a break. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Hi Suzanne, it might go easier this time. It's definitely worth it. It took me a couple of weeks before I quit missing sweets. Good luck!

Hi there,

I quit sugar about two weeks ago having been someone who BINGED on candy and chocolate all the time. I had about five days of misery. Then I felt a lot better for a few days. Then I had some refined carbs in the form of pasta, muffins, and bread (I didn't "binge," but I definitely had a good amount) and snacked on some little chocolates at work. Now I feel down again. I am quitting again, but do you think that amount of carbs/sugar I just had again made me have to restart the whole withdrawal process?

Hi Mike,

I'm not big on New Year's resolutions - I don't usually stick with them. I do intend to start going to the Y, though. I have to do something! Thanks for commenting.
