What a great story to read. More and more I've been seeing your name popping up so I'm sure you are doing all kinds of great things on your own to have that happen although, yes, WHO you know many times will guide some points in your life at one point or another. When those times happen, it's very smart to follow to see where they take you. You are certainly proof of that. Who knows where this will take you from here too! Good luck with everything. I really wonder now where you actually do live now that you said it is an hour for you to get to Chicago. We are a little further from downtown Chicago. Hubby and I often will drive into Schaumburg to hit our favorite stores; IKEA and The Container Store which is where I buy all my containers for my sewing room storage.

Anyway, GOOD LUCK with the show.

Great story Ebony! I'm constantly amazed and humbled by our guild members. Who knew so many had such experiences as appearing on quilt shows, writing quilt books, teaching classes, etc? It really is humbling and sometimes a little embarrassing since I don't always know these things while I'm talking to them at the meetings! I love how generous and kind the quilting community is. :) I'm all for having more awesome quilty friends!

Congratulations, Ebony! Great things are happening to you and I'm sure that most of it is due to your hard work, perseverance and, of course, your fantastic quilting skills. Of course, having friends in the right places is nice too, isn't it? :) You are absolutely correct about quilters - they are always so helpful and there doesn't seem to be the jealous, keep you down while I'm on the way up attitude that you often find in "real" jobs.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your video segments; I love Mary's fun attitude and I'm sure the two of you will be great together.
Again, congrats! BTW, you look fantastic :)

Another idea is possibly to offer 'secret stash sales' at better prices than those you need to spend time photographing and putting up. Kinda of like those bags of stash Moda sells where you don't know what you are going to get but can rest assured it's good quality and at a better price than their other fabrics. I'm sure there are many that may be interested in something like that too. Plus doing that could possibly clear it out faster for you. I realize you can compete with those places that buy wholesale as you already mentioned but what I'm saying is that possibly these 'secret' stash could be a little less since it involves much less time on your part.

Well, I can't compete with places like 1000's of bolts or Walmart. 1000s of bolts purchases everything wholesale & get steep discounts because of their volume. I have to price mine so that I don't lose money because I can't take the hit to the business like that, but at the same time, I won't be marking it up to full retail pricing. So I guess I will have to see how it goes... I don't think my stash is really the place for bargain-bin pricing - this isn't a case of getting rid of the stash at any cost, but striking a balance between what I have & what someone else might put to better use sooner. :) It also has to be something manageable for me - I am not really interested in hacking up the yardage into anything smaller than 1/2 yard, because then I turn into a fabric seller instead of just a destasher. :)

I have a favorite eBay fabric seller, favorite because of fabric groupings and prices. He sells color related groups in 1/4 yard cuts and 1/2 yard cuts. You can purchase a group of 20, 30, 40 or 50 with prices starting at 65 cents a cut. I was tickled to buy a mixed color grouping of skinny quarters by Jinny Beyer at 65 cents per cut, I purchased 50. The cuts will make great scrap and string quilts. I buy for color groups and pricing, maybe others are interested in that too. Prices need to compete with other on line sellers like 1000's of bolts. They sell lots of brand fabrics for under $5 per yard (less than WallyWorld crap). I buy for charity quilts and cannot afford higher pricing.
