Meg you are not alone in your opinion of this new SMBMSP. I shoukd first apologize for this TLDR comment. I too gained insights and friendships from SMBMSP. I couple months aga I attended a SMB for the first time in a year. While I enjoyed myself I also was reaffirmed that I had outgrown the breakfast. I believe that what Rick & Mykl have done is truly amazing and they deserve infinite praise for their dedication to introducing social media as a business channel to many MSPers. I have shared my opinion of the event with them and others but I'll reiterate that opinion here. Social media is really neat. Breakfast that involves bacon is fantastic. The marketing, PR and interactive community in MSP is amazing. The mashing of these elements makes for a great get together. Other cities have had Social Media Breakfasts but none are as often and as well organized as what we have here. Rick and Mykl have had excellent support from a variety of local businesses but sponsors seem to be harder to come by as the event grows in age. This all adds up to a need for change. No pun intended. They have to charge to survive. Because this community has gathered once a month fo so long I have to wonder what those who have long attended are getting by attending. I completely believe that it is a beneficial event for newcomers to social media business practices. In the early days it was the social media early adopters who were always in attendance. I've noticed that, like myself, some have outgrown it which others still attend. I can't imagine that those still attending are gaining new knowledge. I expect that they enjoy the people, the case studies and the chance to network for new business opportunities. I expect that those who feel a great attachment to the events shouldn't have a problem paying to participate. I'm surprised with all of the local networking grottos and events that people couldn't find another time to have some sort of social media marketing get together. I feel as though I know the core group of social-media-lites well enough to say, chill out, let's get a beer ever once in a while. If Mykl Roventine, Keith Privette and Chris Lower bring their bottomless cups of joy and Phil Wilson, Jen Kane, Jake Nyberg and I bring our buckets of comedic snark I'm sure everyone will have a good time. Just don't plan the event too far east or west of the river, in too small of a bar and for God sakes leave the karaoke at home.

Have you read *All Dressed in White*? It's a fascinating look at the origins of American "white wedding" traditions. Your post reminded me of it, and I loved reading it as a bride.

Greetings Meg,

My organization wants to draft a social media policy for our staff handbook. We're not looking at how to conduct our social media outreach, but how our actions and choices related to our social media output are governed. For example, we want to make a few rules for interacting with minors. Could you send me some articles, resources, websites, sample policies, refer me to knowledgeable persons etc. to help us craft ours?

Thanks!
Laura

Hi Meg, Congratulations on your engagement! That is so exciting. I have been thinking a lot about the different types of health that you mention here in my own life. How have you been doing with the goals you set for yourself? I have set some very similar goals for myself in the coming year. I'd love to see how you're tackling things. Cheers!
