I'm finally surrendering as well and pursuing ordination in the Christian Church/Disciples of Christ. I found your page (and Twitter) by searching for ordination resources. I'm also in the midsouth, though in Arkansas.

I'm embarking on what I know to be a long journey, but it's one I know is right and one God has already been blessing. I look forward to seeing your answers to the questions the UMC is posing to you. And, I hope you won't mind, I think I'll work through answering them as well in order to further investigate where I stand.

Thank you for chronicling your walk.

Chuck- You are so right. It is equally radical for us today, but our "lord's" aren't as overt as the Roman Empire was. Well... not always. Ours cloak themselves in noble sounding names like "king and country," "upward mobility," etc. But they are just as dangerous and to name them Lord brings death.

"Jesus is Lord" was also, and is, a radical statement. For the Jews under Roman occupation, it was supposed to be "Caesar is Lord." To state otherwise was not only over and against the religious thought and systems of the day, it was a revolutionary statement about where our true loyalties lie. To say "Jesus is Lord" was to risk everything, including your very life.

Tim- I think you are right about expanding that area. That for me is an integral part of the whole "why evil exists" discussion. I'm working on a deadline to get these finished, so I'll come back and rework some areas if time permits.
