In general, I've found adult dystopian fiction acts as a warning about the future. If we continue going in the way we are, this is likely to be the result. Stop! Do something else.

In young adult dystopian fiction, writers are more likely to be mirroring the world teens already live in–a hellish place with little control. Often these books have hopeful outcomes despite the dark themes. The take-away is, "Don't give up. You can get through anything."

I would argue that both forms are idealistic at heart. In the first example, the author ultimately believes change is possible if people see what's happening and alter their actions. In the second example, characters generally overcome great obstacles. Focusing on darkness can be empowering.

To be honest, at this point I don't know.

It was a lot of fretting beforehand, a lot of hassle in the process, and so far the benefits seem negligible – or at least the benefits aren't visible/perceptible.

If it's doing something to battle the MS, then it's worth it and I'd consider longer and stronger maybe. But right now, I just can't say either way, sis.
