This is such a beautiful article ما شاء الله And if you know a little about Arabic grammar, it makes reciting the names of Allah even more enjoyable:

Any name on the pattern فعيل implies permanence. So, Allah is الرحيم, which means Allah will be merciful to the believers forever and ever…

Any name on the pattern فعلان means being “full of” and all-encompassing. So, Allah is الرحمن which means Allah is intensely merciful to everyone, even to non-believers (in this world.)

On a side note, when I worked as an ESL teacher overseas, there was a travel agent in the ticketing office with the last name السكران. People in his office sometimes joked with him (all in good fun) when he made errors on flight reservations

Any name on the pattern فعول means strength or a strong quality. So, الغفور implies strong mercy.

Any name on the pattern فاعل implies the one who does the act (or has that quality). This is the basic pattern. So, الخالق means the Creator, simply.

Any name on the pattern فعال means doing something repeatedly, so الخلاق implies creating again and again.

I hope all the above is correct and beneficial.

But if pilgrim convenience and accommodation for worship demands that a site is demolished, then that should be the priority. We go to Mecca primarily to worship Allah and not as a tourist attraction. In that sense, Mecca is not like Rome.

Salam! I believe religion should always be practiced from a position of understanding. This is why I believe the entire “Mutawa” experiment, where religion was forced upon a people, was a total failure!

Religion never works with force! My $.02

I have really been enjoying the story because it's one of those situations where there are so many questions about multiple characters that you want answered. All you can do is keep reading and enjoy as it unfolds! That flashback scene really said a lot, subhanAllah. What got me even more than the scene was picturing Amir absorbed in the memory and everyone else next to him wondering what is going on with him. Next to him yet distant. Powerful writing.
