Hi Sheila,

The best place to start is by requesting the Bounty Land Warrant Application. You can do this by completing an NATF form 85 (there is a section on the form for warrant applications). Here is the link to the form: http://www.archives.gov/forms/pdf/natf-85.pdf

For further assistance, please contact our reference staff at inquire@nara.gov

Best of luck with your research!

Hi Linda,

It is difficult to say whether or not individual photos of soldiers exist within the National Archives. The Army did not typically keep file photos of military personnel; more often, those kinds of photos would have been taken by family or friends when the soldier was home on leave, so if they exist, they would be in private hands. You can, however, contact our Still Pictures unit - they might be able to assist you with your research. More information about Still Pictures and their contact information can be found here: http://www.archives.gov/research/order/still-pictures.html

Hi Martin and Drew,

We checked in on the procedures for requesting these files and nothing has changed regarding the Civilian R Pension files - they are still kept in offsite storage in Boyers, PA. They should be there, although there is no standard form to request these files. Please send a letter requesting a copy of the file, including the name of the pensioner and the file number to: Iron Mountain, PO Box 45, Boyers, PA 16017.

Thank you,
Meredith

Hi Desta,

The best way to find out what your great grandfather was convicted of would be to get a hold of his case file. Our Atlanta facility holds case files for inmates of the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary for the years 1902 to 1921. You can find an index here, where you can get the inmate number. To request copies of the file, you can contact the Atlanta facility directly.

Hi Martin,

I asked the same question in an earlier post and came across the same issue with OPM not knowing what I was requesting. I am going to see if I can make some calls/e-mails next week and will post here if I find any new info...

take care,
Drew

My next door neighbor who I grew up with in S.F. was killed in Vietnam. How can I get a copy of his Army photo in uniform? His parents and siblings are now all deceased. I would like to add his photo to his Find-A-Grave Online Memorial Page.
Thank you,
Linda

Ive known Jo Steck since 1991. She has, by far, made this world a better place, with all her contributions, personal and business. I thank God for knowing her and her family. I am so proud of all she has accomplished and my family and I continue to cheer her on!

Hi I have found that my 2nd great grand father Charles Alolph Thomas Frangott Wirth had land stating that the Document Type: Military Warrent, State: Wisconsin, Issue Date: 12/1/1854. I have not been able to find his service papers of any kind. I would like to find the Bounty Land Warrent Application if it is possible. I have never done this before and so thrilled to find out more about him. If you could help direct me in the right place that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to locate an R pension file which from reading blog posts here from 2010 found out it is a civilian file. I contacted the Office of Personnel Management, PO Box 45, Boyers, PA 16017. They have no idea what I am talking about and referred me back to NARA National Personnel Records Center
Civilian Personnel Records
1411 Boulder Blvd
Valmeyer, IL 62235

Is this accurate?
