I’ve recently installed the free version of Comodo Firewall on a Windows 7 (32-bit) machine, and even though I run an Administrator account and I’ve made sure I set the appropriate permissions, etc., there’s just no “teaching” this program when to stop it with the pop-ups. It’s going crazy whenever a program tries to go online, even after I select “Allow” and “remember answer”. Not worth it IMHO… I’m switching back to ZoneAlarm A.S.A.P.

Something like the swine flu should not be messed with. There are a lot of people who are still wanting the vaccine so getting a fake email can really hurt someone.

Watch out for the default or suggested settings, which are often “everyone”. You really should restrict certain types of information to certain groups, so check out all the settings.

…and another variation of this attack is now circulating. This one steals bank passwords for the ING bank in The Netherlands and places the iphone under remote control. Again, only jail-broken founds running the SSH service with the default password are affected.

Here is more information on a related scam, this one using spam meant to appear to be coming from the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) in the U.S. Again, the attack is targeting business banking.

A more dangerous version of this worm has now been reported. This one copies all the data it can find from vulnerable iPhones, including emails, SMSs, contacts, calendars, music, etc. Again, non-hacked version of the iPhone are fine, and the cause of the problem is people not changing the default password for the ssh service that is installed when a phone is jail-broken.

I’m not sure Microsoft is entirely to blame. Just like with web browsers (Internet Explorer versus Netscape, Mozilla, etc.), wouldn’t Microsoft be threatened with unfair competition lawsuits from other anti-virus vendors if they did include their AV software (currently Microsoft Security Essentials) with Windows 7?
