Have you tried to make jalapeno poppers yet? I've never tried, but I've also not cooked with real jalapenos - yet! Thanks for the inspiration! :-)

I have books and books of pictures I've taken. But for some reason that fell off sometime after grad school. Maybe it was the expense of prints or the weight of moving them (again). I think the reason I don't look back through digital photos is because of the volume of them. Without having to edit as I snap, I'm less likely to edit as I upload, and therefore end up with lots of mediocre pictures and a few real "keepers." But I've recently rediscovered the fun of having albums to look at.

I'm not a scrapbooker. I won't sit down with scalloped scissors, expensive paper and glue to make each page it's own beautiful individual snowflake of a page. I admire the work of others, but I just can't bring myself to participate in the trend.

I will, however, shove photos from others, ticket stubs, birthday cards, postcards, and just a few choice prints of my own that I've ordered into an envelope as the months go along. Then, one Saturday morning, after the dog and cats have been fed and before my NGHubby awakes, I'll sit down with a a cup of coffee (shade grown, of course!) and my standard plastic pocket photo album. Everything fits nicely in there, perhaps with a little photo pocket manipulation and some scotch tape, but in general, it's the easiest scrapbooking ever.

The idea came from the photo album Mom gave us when we got engaged. I kept that up for the whole engagement.

I let the faux-scrapbooking go for a while, but I've been saving things again in that manila envelope to commemorate pregnancy and give baby-to-be a little peek into life before she's born.

P.S. I also like the shoebox approach. There's something about handling the photos themselves that's satisfying.

Your discussion of prints or digits is very thoughtful. I started taking a few pictures with my Brownie (2” by 2” prints) in the 1940s. I have always enjoyed the prints. I like them either in albums or, preferably, in a shoe box. I haven’t taken a lot of pictures, but those that I have taken, plus those that have been given to me by others, usually end up in a shoe box. Once every 10 years or so I go through the shoe box and look at the pictures with much pleasure. Then, back in the shoe box they go, never to see the light of day for another 10 years. The disadvantage is that I seldom bring out the shoe boxes to share the pictures with family and friends. But are the pictures not primarily for my personal enjoyment? I think so. And do others really appreciate the memories or sentiments they engender? I think not, for the most part. And if they do, they will be there, viewable on request.

Is this at all relevant to your discussion? I think it is in this respect: l “lose” any pictures that remain in digital form. I look at them once and think, oh, yes, very nice. I never look at them again. I certainly won’t look for them 10 years from now. They will either have to be in an album (that someone else has taken the time to put together because I won’t), or they will have to show up in one of my randomly dis-arranged shoe boxes. Either way, they will probably be far more readily accessible to me, and therefore more frequently accessed, than had they remained in digitized form only.

I was lucky enough to have a glass of this punch at the shower. I'm not a big fan of punch, but this was VERY tasty and pretty. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Clarissa - it is always so much fun when the green turns into a real flower in your own garden - Enjoy the experience - I still enjoy every year when my bulbs bloom in the spring and again when the Peruvian Daffodil bulb blooms in the summer!

Wow, that's a great looking flower garden. It must take a lot of water to keep things looking like that in all the sun and heat. Be sure to post pictures when the calla lilies bloom.

Another title for this could be "Food for Thought". And then there's the issue of our drinking water either bottled or from the tap. It is hard to know what's best.
