(Misc) “Go to Dorian in Solitude and pick up the item” – Dorian is inside a ship, doesn’t exit. When you go inside the ship to talk to him, he says only “you shouldn’t be in here” and doesn’t engage in conversation.

I completed it without having to fight, run, or otherwise do something (relatively) complicated.

Just try to get Dorian near the door. How? Just stand close to him and he will move back a few steps. Do this a few times until he gets close to the door. Then start talking to him (he speaks the "You shouldn't be here" line) and quickly get out of the ship.
He will get out too, then quickly again start a conversation with him, and you'll get the correct line to complete the quest.

Stuck Quests:
(Misc) “Go to Dorian in Solitude and pick up the item” – An small alternative to Michael's suggestion is to yield after you run out of the ship, so the fight stops and no guards show up. Then you quickly talk to him before he goes back in the ship.

PS: I'm disappointed in Bethesda. The amount of bugs in the game is awful.

You might be overstating your case; it does have the "magical compass" that tells you which direction to go if you get lost. I mean, you don't have to look at it if you don't want to, but it's there in the game.

You know I swear I originally had a bulletpoint on how clever the improvised weapons and flashlight were, but now I can't find it. Hm. Victim of editing, or maybe I'm crazy.

Russians make great video games. So far the only bad Russian game I've played is STALKER: Clear Skies, and it's 1) only bad in a relative sense (the other two STALKER games are amazing), and 2) bad because it was far too ambitious, which is a good reason to be bad. Shame about GSC's financial woes.

IMO one of the best things about Metro was its lack of obviousness. Games that go "look! go there! do that!" and games that have only one, very obvious, path (Half-Life 2 *ahem*) annoy me, but Metro assumes the player is clever enough to figure out what to do next. Also I think you should've mentioned the weapons, particularly the pneumatic ones, as a plus.

My conclusion is similar to yours; Metro is an excellent game that deserves far more publicity and accolades than the current crop of derivative FPSes with 3 in their titles.

Sorry, when I sent an email to Bethesda support asking about the same problem the only response I got was a suggestion to reload a game from before the bug occurred (as if I knew when that was!) or to start over. When I asked for a console command I could try to fix Esbern, the only reply was "console commands are not supported."

I've got the same problem with Esbern. I managed to get through all the stages with minor frustrations, but when it came to the MISC Quest 'Return To Esbern', I just cant seem to pass it. I've talked to him about Paarthurnax, but I didnt get any new quests. Is there a cheat I can use? Does anybody else know how to pass this part?
Please Help.

Haha that's awesome. I completed it using michael's method, which involved paying-off the cops, but it wasn't too expensive.

I have just managed to finish that without increasing my bounty and crime.

I have already obtained 'Beast Form' from Companions, so I left my horse and follower far enough not to participate in a battle. Then I came to the boat and turned to a werewolf on the deck. You have to make sure no one see you when you changing the form. I then have entered the boat cabin and people there immediately started fighting me. I have quickly exited the boat and ran away, leading Dorian and his people. I had to hide for sometime, until I have changed the form again. Once again that is important no one sees you as you changing the form. That way neither ship crew nor guardians understand you and the werewolf are the same. As I got my human form back I had to run quickly to Dorian until he is inside the boat again.

Both Esbern and Delphine are very broken in my game.. I visited the sky haven before I got the quest(Much to early to load from), and both of them got stuck at the first puzzle waiting for me to complete, which I could not. At the time I completed the quest with console commands, but that seems like it was a very bad idea.. The best solution is to summon the characters inside the haven and they should unlock the quest chain properly. My save is now completely broken.. No blades, no extra dragon skill.. Both characters act as if we never even started the quest.

@michael
Out of curiosity, does Esbern work correctly in your game? Both times I've played through, he's gotten in an annoying broken state... I'm starting to wonder if Esbern works for anybody at all.
