That’s exactly the problem with this type not being documented independently of the DOM documentation that I was trying to hard to convey to the DailyWTF crowd.

Another entertaining problem you’ll find with this is that Internet Explorer gives the DispHtmlElementCollection object extra undocumented properties. If the NodeList contains an element with id=”foo”, then IE injects a property called foo to allow you to access that element, e.g. with paras.foo. That’s all well and good until you have an element with id=”length”. In that case, you find that the synthesised .length property overrides the standard .length property that ought to tell you the array length, with predictably bad consequences. And as this only happens in Internet Explorer, and only if you have an element with id=”length”, it’s something that might go unnoticed for a long time!

I figured out the Dorian bug. It took me a while and lots of frustration but it is possible. The first few times I attempted it, just like everyone else, he wouldn’t engage in conversation. He never did. I looked up ways to go around it and I read that if you can get him to follow you off of the ship so he doesn’t go back into the boat to fast while you surrender to the guards you should have time to talk to him.

-go into the ship.
-punch Dorian (stealing didn’t initiate anything for me)
- run out on the dock to the left. You will be attacked. Dorian may and may not follow you, he didn’t follow me.
-if he doesn’t follow you, go back onto the ship (not inside) and use unrelenting force to knock him off of the ship toward the dock behind the boat. He should land on the dock or in the water near the dock and he will come up by himself.
-approach a guard and say you’re in the thieves guild and everyone will stop attacking you.
-Dorian should be standing right there when you’re finished speaking with the guard.

After trying many times I died and wejt fir another go, but he was not there. I followed my map and he was randomly walking down a path heading towards the boat lol….Weird byt true

Thanks again. Your various postings here and on WTF at least helped me have some idea of what was going on with the DispHTMLELementColleciton Object. (As you say if you hadn’t posted there’d STILL be Nil results for a google search on it…)

I’ve still wasted over a day trying to work out why sometimes my code works perfectly but re-run it straight afterwards and it fails with a VBA “Persmission denied” error…I suspect this has something to do with the “live”/dynamic nature of the NodeList and VBA’s compiling preferences… but that’s another story !
