I now work for Infoxchange where I'm setting up a project to audit/review the tech capabilities and needs of small nonprofit organisations.

Completely different from web design - should be fun!

Hi Leonie,

I can't remember which websites I tested, I did it hurriedly during your talk at Making Links. And I'm not sure whether all those sites used Community Site in a Box or not.

The only test I did was html validation using validator.w3.org.

Even if a CMS is standards-compliant when first installed, a website editor can quickly stuff up the compliance by added their own duff code. So my quick test doesn't necessarily mean that Community Site in a Box itself doesn't validate.

Hi Jason,

Just read this piece and am intersted in which of the dozen sites you tested as not all of the Community Websites use Community Site in a Box?
Thanks,
Leonie

Hi Jason,
I found all the presentations really interesting and extremely useful for someone like me, who is trying to build a resourceful website, but feels lost because of lack of knowledge in the field. You guys were really great and helpful. Working groups were great too, unfortunately we had to pick just one, but I was also really interested in your working group on Google tools. Hopefully, Jill will manage to collect some minutes from each working group and e-mail them to us.
Thanks again, you were extremely helpfull!

I'm a little uncomfortable with Google sites for an organization's public website. Part of this is due to Google's claim on ownership (read the terms of service carefully, all who may be considering it!), but I'm also not sure how professional it looks.
Plus, there are other cheap options: most web hosts now include access to some sort of simple editor, there are open source WYSIWYG editors, and there are so many easy CMS options now. (And even if an org has to sink a little cash hiring someone to set up the CMS initially, anyone should be able to maintain the site thereafter.)
