A spike in implied volatility will increase the value of a long calendar spread. Net you are long vega. Far term options are more sensitive to volatility. They have more vega. An ideal situation for long calendar is for the stock to sit and implied vol to rise.

You can hardly predict when is the exact time to trade. Numbers are just so flexible that at an instant stocks goes down and rises.

Great Article.....Thank you for the update. As a suggestion, a real working example using the present option format and the new propoased format would be helpful.

@Don - you can access our "Options Summary" available on the home page of www.m-x.ca under the "MX Market Review" section. This file will give you the equity options series that traded during the previous trading day (with volume and open interest on each series).

I download the presentation and liked what I saw however there weren't any speaking notes which would help.

Another point that I have is when I look at daily volumes there I can't find any options with large trade volumes or open interest. Maybe I am looking in the wrong spot but the equities with high daily volume shown are for all of the various options.
Is there any equities or ETF options with large daily volumes in particular strike prices and dates?

thanks
