		<description><![CDATA[You can indeed but that involves three sets of server/database technologies requiring installation and configuration not to mention some quite complex Javascript to do the mapping. Plus you would need to host your spatial data somewhere. And it would only be accessible on a limited number of mobile devices.

The Esri route allows for very rapid map creation, will store your data in the cloud for you and all via a very simple to use web-interface.

So, whilst the former does indeed provide more flexibility, the latter requires virtually no specialist knowledge and no need for hosting plus ready to go mobile apps and a growing library of datasets.

I&#039;m not saying the Esri route is the right choice for every application, but it is certainly a good means of producing functional online maps very easily with neat integration with desktop and mobile GIS platforms.]]></description>
