Hey Bertie,
I'm not sure how experienced you are at photography but the best way to get awesome colours is to play with your exposure. Take your camera off automatic and use your light meter and dont be afraid to underexpose the photo by a half or a full stop. For portraits I usually sharpen certain features, usually eyes, hair, and sometimes, jewelry.

I've created a tutorial on my other blog on how to do this:

http://wtfotography.com/?p=1412

Let me know if you have any further questions :-)

I'll be posting this on the blog as well..

cheers,
Joe

Yup, contrary to what people think, it does snow in So cal... there are actually 4 skii resorts just outside of LA. That's why people love to live here, you can swim at the beach and go skiing in the same day.

Hi, I love the above picture but I have a question about it. I am starting to get into photography having bought my first Canon DSLR quite recently. I am just interested to know how you go so much colour in the babie's eyes, in particular! Is this due to post processing or the clever use of reflectors? I would be very interested to know as I have tried several ways of increasing the colour in people's eyes without having to use Photoshop. I would be incredibly grateful for any advice you might be able to give me!

Thanks
