Nice shot, Penelope! - too bad my time didn't live up to your artistry. I'm working on it!!
PBC's standing for this year (meters recorded since May 1) is No. 27 among On-Water Clubs. And this is with only 14 people signed up. If you are erging at all, register at Concept 2 and record your meters. Be sure you are affiliated with Potomac Boat Club, ID 1297. We should be able to jump to the top of the list and stay there! Every meter counts although those of you who fog up the ballroom when you are erging -- we could really use your contribution....

Note: As part of the general plan to de-clutterize and clean-up the House, we are also in the midst of cleaning out and updating the weight room. Jake Higley has been the able coordinator of the weight room effort. No kidding, the weight room is used by a significant number of members and it now contains new equipment. The new equipment led to discussion of creating more space for effective and safe use, which then led to a clean-out project that deposited (temporarily) various items of clutter in the shed.

The shed now contains various grilling equipment, brooms, ladders, old folding chairs, rugs, weights, defunct weight equipment, dead stereo components, flat swiss balls, an abundance of mismatched iron weight plates, water bottles, among other things.

It's due to be cleaned out at the June 11 club work day. In general, everything now in the shed will be be donated or disposed. This includes some intact equipment that is either not used by PBC members or for which we do not have room. Anyone interested in acquiring the equipment or in retaining it at PBC, should speak up quickly.

Hi, Bob!

Thanks so much for your comment and discerning eye for precise data! Chuck had sent a few other tables that may have been more accurate, but unfortunately, we weren't able to format them for the site. Our tables came from the NOAA Middle Atlantic River Forcecast Center at http://www.erh.noaa.gov/marfc/Rivers/FloodClimo/.

Here is an excerpt from the NOAA site:

This area is devoted to flood frequency analysis information for the MARFC forecasting area. It contains information on how many times floods have happened in a specific month, percentages of flood occurrence for each month, probability, and average height above flood stage.

The main function of this project is to give the user historical flood statistics for most of The Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center (MARFC) forecast points. MARFC has received numerous requests from our customers in regards to historical flood information. This project answers these requests for the much needed information.

If you have any questions, input or see any bad links, please contact Charles Chillag (Charles.Chillag@noaa.gov) or Alaina Macfarlane (Alaina.MacFarlane@noaa.gov).

Interestingly, as you found, they say on the site that their flood data isn't necessarily up to date, so thanks, again, for catching the error!

Nice write up, but I noticed that the tables you presented have an error in the second entry. That flood was 168,000 cubic feet per second not 16,800. Don't know what other errors there might be in this list. You can find the data for the largest flood of each year at http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/md/nwis/peak?site_no=01646500&agency_cd=USGS&format=html

I took a look at the total amount of streamflow in March and April combined and could see that it is the 4th largest since 1932. I'll make a calculation for the combination of March, April and May at the end of May. I'm guessing that will stack up as one of the highest. I've also looked at the size of the annual floods for the Potomac all the way back to 1895 and the overall record doesn't show any signs of a trend towards larger floods.

This is the social event of the season; guaranteed to be covered in the Sunday Style section of the NY Times. And it's not true that the average age at these meetings is 60+; those old geezers are asleep before it starts (except for a few who take a nap beforehand).

Hi - I am Kathy Byington and I row for the MRP program. I am also an adaptive athlete and rowed with the inagural adaptive 4+ boat sponsored by Capital Adaptive that won gold on Sunday am at the HOCR. I know you have to look past the Capital unis and blades and the DC strokes boat but I am rock'n my PBC cap (in 2 seat).

Thank you to all of my team mates and coachs at PBC who supported my training this year. It made for a great day on the water on Sunday.

Kathy

One last note from north of the border before we get in our car....Camilla made it a hat-trick on Sunday when she and Cal won in the 2x. Some Potomac men were in a mixed B8+ that also took home a medal on the last day of competition in the mixed events.
Unfortunately high winds forced organizers to cancel most of the events on Saturday. We understood the problem when we saw an empty 4+ being towed back to the dock -- EMPTY. After several laps around the warm-up area our women's C4+ was sent back to the dock and after nearly 2 hours of waiting the organizers decided they had to cancel the rest of the day.
But overall it was a good regatta for PBC and lots of fun despite the weather! Sorry for leaving out some of the men's boats here but I am not sure who was in which races.
