Yes, thanks md for the pics. We also saw a photo at the panoramio.com site of Hyperion. Couldn't tell if the comment was generic or if you were correlating the Hyperion redwood with a location downhill from Lady Bird Johnson grove to the north. Would love to know. But also do like the challenge either way. In an article at Metroactive, its evident that the writer and his safari of forest woodsmen didn't find it. I suspect it was not there to find. Not around Redwood Creek that is. Guess we'll just have to look in both places. But I'm going to try the Lost Man Creek tributaries first since people have already searched near Redwood Creek and turned up nothing.

Just so you know, this laptop is designed to meet business users needs

Actually, it fails quite miserably at being designed to meet business users for a number of reasons ...
1. No media bay battery for longer run time. The available battery slice is massive and heavy, no good for a road warrior.
2. Docking station doesn't present itself as a dock ... so the OS doesn't know about it. So there is no undock option. This is a major no-no. You never unplug devices from a system without telling the OS about it.

I wrote more extensively about the E6400 on my blog.

I use this computer at work. I have used it for both work-related purposes and for fun. I loaded both "Half-Life 2, episode 2" and "Portal" onto it and they both worked great! By the way, stick to Windows 7. If you want to have your XP machine back, you can download Windows XP mode (a virtual machine). I LOVE this computer. No issues. It is better than my Compaq Presario R3000 that I have at home. Stupid thing has a loose power jack that I was sick of having to solder back together. The nice thing about the E6400 is that it is thin and portable. You can attach it to a docking station and the graphics are great! Just get rid of XP. It is like installing a golf cart engine into a Ferrari. Why the hell would you do that???

I upgraded from a Thinkpad T42 which, oddly enough, still had a parallel port. No serial port, though. I suspect those USB-to-serial adapters may not be 100% compatible for your needs. There are PCMCIA and ExpressCard options, too. I suggest testing some with a vendor that's no hassle with returns. Annoying additional expense. Legacy ports have been on their way out for a while, though certain professions rely heavily on them.

Unfortunatly, Dell sold our corporate office on the new E series laptops and now we have 20 laptops that we can't use to upgrade the laptops in the field because the new E series laptops do not have serial ports. No one suspected that the laptops did not have serial ports. What a waste!
