Got mine replaced at Regent St last night. When I got the new phone, it was on about 58%. I restored the phone from the backup which meant it was plugged in to my computer and charging for about 45 mins. After that I did a 1 hour call, had wifi on, listened to music, used some apps and left it unplugged overnight. This morning I checked my emails, checked the weather and listened to music on my way to work and I'm now on 56% so it would seem that this one has much better battery life and the previous one was a dud.

I am having similar experiences with my iPhone 4. Last night I went to bed when it was at about 33%, and this morning it was dead. This has happened several times now since I got the phone. Some nights there is hardly any drop, some nights it is 30% or more. Usage during the day has been similarly random, sometimes only going down slightly and sometime dropping dramatically even with minimal usage.

My current settings (unchanged since last night):

Bluetooth: off
Location Services: off
Network 3G: on
Cellular Data: on
Wi-Fi - connected to home network
Mail: set to 1 account, manual fetch

I'm on my 3rd iPhone 4: 1st one couldn't pick up wireless networks, 2nd one would lose cell signal if you so much as looked at it, let alone touched it, and this one, my 3rd - has a terrible battery life. After a night on charge, and light use during the day it's now at 24% at 16.07. I don't have wifi on, don't have push email turned on and have killed all the apps that were suspended in the background.

I've cycled the battery, deleted and re-installed my Exchange account and restored the software. Back to Regent Street for a 4th one I think!

In total, this will be my 10th iPhone. I've owned every model but had problems with them all. Either I'm the world's unluckiest iPhone owner or Apple have a QA problem.

I'm sorry @steve, this is not developer laziness, and there are some gaping holes in your arguments:

1. If I want to grab the users key-presses from the displayed oAuth authorisation page, a developer could do that. This is no more secure if you believe the developer is not trust worthy.

2. One might say that developers not being determined to get a better solution than "display a random web-site UI look and feel in the middle of my app that might change at any point" would be developer laziness. You are prioritising perceived security over usability. An application and its functionality should be consistent with its environment.

The decision is very simple. If you believe that using xAuth is lazy and the work of a bad developer, vote with your wallet/time and go use another App that uses the full oAuth methodology. The point is there are plenty out there and it's your choice.

My issues with battery life began when I downloaded iOS4 to my 3G. I visited the local Apple store and received 3 new phones since the battery problem AND the heat of the phone were obvious.
I received my new iPhone4 in the mail from AT&T. Same issue. I'm on my 3rd new phone and there's no resolution to this problem. I can get at best 5 hours of battery life and that includes shutting down almost everything...
So, in the past three weeks, I've had 7 new phones (4-3G / 3 iPhone4), talked to techs at Apple including a 'senior administrator'. None of them had heard of this issue, so I'm glad you have brought this out in the open.
I hope there's a way to resolve this. I've been with Apple for 23 years and would hate to leave over this phone problem.

I had the same problems. This really helped me. So try it out:

Reset iPhone settings. From the Home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. All your preferences are reset, but no data or media is deleted.

From: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1737

Hope it helps someone.

I don't have any problems with my iPhone 4 battery. I was just searching around to see what the most efficient way to start my iPhone 4 charging. Maybe that's what people are looking for. Because the previous iPhone battery fell apart fast. People might be trying to learn more about how the batteries work, and when and if they should let it die completely before recharging or wait till a certain percentage. So far I've gathered that you should not let it die completely ever. Once every 40 charges is okay, but there not the same as laptop batteries.
